Anybody running a 255/45/20 and 295/40/20 combo?

It's time to replace the old 17s with 20s, and I'm tire shopping. I've decided on 295/40/20s for the rear. Just wondered how 255/45s would look on the front.

Re: Anybody running a 255/45/20 and 295/40/20 combo?

You don't mention if your truck is dropped or what wheels but here is my $0.02 worth.

I don't have exactly the same but... 72 C10 swb - Front 275/45/20 rear 275/60/20. The front is dropped about 4" and the rear dropped about 6". Wheels are 20X9 with a 4.75" backspace. The bed is tubbed. The only issue I have with this size is when going down the highway and hitting a dip, the right front tire will scrape a little. But the front springs are weak. With full wheel lock left to right, no scraping. Tires fit within the fenders. Fenders cover about 2" of the top of the tire front and rear.

Overall it looks pretty good but as always, there are improvements to be made, so I am starting a suspension rebuild. The front will be dropped 2" and the rear 3". If the measurements are correct, the fenders will be above the tires by 1" front and 2" rear.

I would post a couple pictures but I am computer challenged and my son is tied up.

Re: Anybody running a 255/45/20 and 295/40/20 combo?

Thanks for the response. Mine is dropped 3"/4.5" with TT2 17s now but I just ordered these wheels in 20x10 and 20x8.5. I like the 255/40 for the front but I just wonder how a 255/45 (slightly taller than the 255/40) tire would look with a 295/40/20 on the rear.

Smile Re: Anybody running a 255/45/20 and 295/40/20 combo?

Those are some cool wheels...

It is always hard saying what would look good for someone else. Personally I like the tire to fill out a fender well. It is cool having a taller tire in the rear. And with the truck having about a 3" rake. But take into consideration that I was a teenager starting to work on cars in the late 60's. Having the rear end jacked up was the style.

Over the past 50 years tastes have certainly changed, so it is all about what you like. If your preference is having the tires about the same height, then I can respect that and bet it will be pretty cool. Here is a link to one of many tire size calculators - https://www.tacomaworld.com/tirecalc...0r20-255-45r20 With the 295's, looking from the rear, it will be a good amount of meat on the road. That never looks bad...

I do have to ask, with your wheels, do you know the back space? On my 9" wheels, there is a 4.75" backspace and the 275/60/20 fit in under the wheel well very close to the outside (<1"). On the front 275/45/20's that is also close but maybe about 1.5" For the rear, I would think that you would need at least a 5.75" back space, unless you want the tire to stick out past the fender.

Hope the pictures come across, think that I finally figured it out...

Re: Anybody running a 255/45/20 and 295/40/20 combo?

The new rear wheels will have 5.5" of backspace. I spent some time researching, and I'm pretty confident about that, so now if I can figure out my tires while I wait for the wheels to come in. You're right, it's all personal preference. I like a little more tire than some, not as much as others. Not everyone will agree. I may just have to take a chance and try it. I haven't found anyone with that combo yet, but I'll keep looking at pics and make up my mind eventually. I have a few weeks.

Re: Anybody running a 255/45/20 and 295/40/20 combo?

I'm running 255/40/20 and 295/40/20. 4/6 drop implemented with ECE springs/spindles up front and ECE blocks/springs/shocks/C-notch out back.

No issues at all. Some might say that the sidewall is too small on the front with mine. I like it though.

Re: Anybody running a 255/45/20 and 295/40/20 combo?

I'm looking into the same thing. I find 40 series in the front a little too rubber-band.

The best 20" tire combo I like is:
Rear: 295/40-20
Front: 255/45-20

Examples:

Some people are going up to 295/45-20 in the rear which I really like but have heard there can sometimes be slight rear rubbing when entering a driveway.

Here's an example, but I don't know how he fit the front tires in there!
20x8.5 with 4 3/4" BS front with 265/50/20s
20x10 with 5" BS in rear with 295/45/20s

Re: Anybody running a 255/45/20 and 295/40/20 combo?

How about 275/40/20 on the rear, and 245/45/20 on the front? That's the standard stagger for tires on a 2010-2015 Camaro SS, and nearly every tire manufacturer has matching tread for those? Plus, if you look at the tire sizes recommended for wheel sizes, those sizes set exactly in the middle for 10 inch rims on the back, and 8 inch on the front?

Just asking....

Re: Anybody running a 255/45/20 and 295/40/20 combo?

Thanks guys, those are nice. I like the 295/40 rear, and like a little bit of stagger, so right now I'm looking at a 245/45 and a 295/40 combo. Nitto555s has these sizes. Compared to the 255/40, the 245/45 is almost 1/2' narrower at 9.57" wide, and a little over 1/2" taller at 28.66" tall. I may try these, but still not sure. I see that the 245/45/20 is a pretty common size. Must be because of the Camaros.
Got any more pics of those trucks Ekliptix?

I am running 275/35 x 20 on the fronts and 315/35 x 20 on the rears. Truck drive great and looks outrageous! Those gigantic C10 wheel arches need big wheels to fill'em up!

Can you please share details on the wheels including offset? Just curious about fitting those big tires in there. Also, what year is your truck? Any pics?

I believe pictures are going to be required here also!

Did you have to do any sheetmetal modifications to fit those tires, front or rear?

Here is a photo of the rear 315X35 20"x 10" wheels/tires. They are Intro Gallup, 100% billet aluminum wheels.

Re: Anybody running a 255/45/20 and 295/40/20 combo?

Here's the update. I went with 245/45/20s on the front with a 3.5" drop and American Racing VN 425s, 8.5" wide with 5.25" backspace.
The rear has a 5.5" drop with 295/40/20s on 10" wide wheels and 5.5" of backspace.

Looks good! I had to go with 35s on the front with a 5 inch drop. 45's rubbed. Just a question because mine came with forty-fives on the front why do people put 45's on the front and 40s vs 45's rear on the back also?

Just personal preference. The 295/40 on the rear was perfect in sidewall height and overall width for me. I looked at the 245/40 and the 255/40 for the front but I wanted something a little taller, while staying shorter than the rear tires. The 245/45 is about 1/2" shorter in height than the 295/40, so it was just what I was looking for.
