Always thought about a 71-72 longbed 2wd with a small lowering kit, and the same setup for a DD style truck. Nothing fancy, but still able to pull 20+ mpg and look cool doing it

Here is my 81 stepside with a 5.3L/4l60e from a 2000 silverado. I just ran the second tank through it and am getting 16.6 mpg mixed driving with 3.42's in the rearend.

How are you figuring gas mileage? Just by refueling till full, or the computer somehow? Nice swap!! Dash looks sweet!!

I just refilled till full. That was pretty much 50/50 city and highway driving.

Thanks for all the compliments on the dash everyone. I did the swap after seeing it in Street trucks a while back and because I was tired of the factory dashes cracking.

Here is a build thread I started:
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=579031

Sorry, but I forget to take pictures until after I do something so there are very little pictures of me installing the dash. I may be able to take some more if anyone wants to see something in particular.

Re: LS swappers, post up your pics!!

Finally got mine to run. There is still more to do. Here is video of it running. I cant believe how great it sounds (minus the knock), I also cant believe how much air the LSXRT and CAI suck in.

Re: LS swappers, post up your pics!!

I am about to start me conversion with a 5.3/ 4l60 in my 67 C20 and I have looked and examined all the pics of this thread and have seen several trucks running the factory a/c compressor in factory location however I was told today that the factory compressor will not work properly on the old systems due to how they work and the expansion valve on the old systems. I was told that in hot areas like Texas when its 100+ that the cold air will surge in and out due to the pressure building up on the expansion valve. He said they work fine in areas where it doesn't get real hot and that they will also not work well unless the vehicle is moving and engine is turning higher RPM's. Can anyone shed some light on this.

Re: LS swappers, post up your pics!!

A lot of people get rid of the original expansion valve and install a 1988-1998 evaporator coil and accumulator set up instead. It seems to work better that way. If you want originality, that is not an option. My truck has that set up, it works fine.

Re: LS swappers, post up your pics!!

finished this up few weeks ago. It is the wifes truck. Looks like we have to sell it now. After a year of work it really sucks. It has a stock 5.3 with a ls1 intake.
