Torchered

Story: When I was 25 I had a 69 for the summer. It had a great motor and paint job but when you looked under the rig it was ugly. I had some bills to pay off so I sold it.
Now: I am currently working on a 70 Nova, its the baby and the piggy bank. But I wanted something to tinker on and drive while Im working on it.
Bought this cheep in primer black, and no it was not prepped, just sprayed on as cover up. The motor is a 350 with a TH350. And it goes.
To do List: I really don't want to spend a fortune on this guy. <= Correction I'm going to spend a s#*t load on this. It will never be a show ride, but it will be a hot rod.< ooops another correction, lowrider! Going to upgrade the front drum to rotor, keeping 6 lugs because the rear axle is a 6 lug 12 bolt. Installing cool ride front end with arms and bags, new rear coil springs, and shocks. tracking bar and some other little things.

Re: Torchered

I installed a set of 20 x 8 front wheels and 20 x 10 rear wheels. The tires I ordered are off. They were to be 29 inches tall front and 31 inches tall rear but the fronts ended up being 28 inched tall. Its a little off. Also put five inch drop coils in the rear. I think a 1.5 inch drop block and a c notch will finish the rear end. Front end is not installed yet.

I really hate that last shot. It looks like crap in that picture. Looks more like rod in life.

Re: Torchered

Thanks fella's for the welcome. Perhaps I will see ya around.
Today I installed a 2x4 (woo ) drop block as a mock up for the rear. It measures 1.4" x 3.5" x 6" long. Looks good but I think the front will not get low enough with the tires that I ended up with. Probably going to have to break down and buy another set from Falken that should be 29.5" tall. Forgot the camera at home so pictueres will be posted tommorrow.

Re: Torchered

LOL, Yep that a block made from wood. I didnt have any square tubing sitting around for the mock up. Don't worry it wont stay, just waiting on the 6lug front rotors to come in so I can install the front end. Tough arms and air ride with 2.5" drop spindles.

Re: Torchered

I said that mine wasn't going to be a show ride either... 2 years later it still isn't... lol

Good luck with your project and keep us posted with pics. I would suggest shaving the side marker lights, going with a 67-68 front clip and painting her orange! Portland is beautiful, I just moved back to Tucson, AZ from Roseburg, OR and I had a small body shop in Sutherlin!

Just MHO...

Re: Torchered

Just a little update. pics will be added monday. Installed the Air tech front end upper and lowers with air bags. 11" front rotors and brake booster. Changed out the rear tires because the first ones were too big and now I am in the middle of fabing a rear cross member for upper shock mounts and also the lower mounts. I went with a set of belltech drop 2 shocks for the rear and a home made 1.5 inch drop block. Looks like a C-notch will be next. Looks alot better.

Re: Torchered

Ive seen alot of folks from the Portland area. That's great. Today was a shoppiing spree. New tail gate, roll pan, front turn signals. Almost bought that cowl hood but the tranny shop is coming up and that will be expensive. You all take care.

Re: Torchered

Shoot, I'm going to have to post new pics. Currently we are ripping off visable parts that need to be blasted and powdercoated. Drop blocks, shock mounts, radiator mounts.
Just brought home my second truck a 70 gmc longbed. It's a donor for tortured. I will be cutting the bed floor down to put in the swb truck as well as outer wheel wells and doors. Selling the rest locally. It even has a twelve bolt rear with a locker.
