Re: 1990 Mega Cab, Mid bed 7.3 4x4 (Frankenstein)

I'm in for the Mega Cab portion! I'd love to see the 8' bed kept, but that rendering looks pretty good.

The logistics of a newer dash/electronics is pretty huge as I understand them. From GMT-800 to now the electronics have gotten pretty complex. Everything routes through the BCM, window controls, hvac, steering wheel audio/etc, everything. It'll be pretty badass to see all of that made to work in the square.

Re: 1990 Mega Cab, Mid bed 7.3 4x4 (Frankenstein)

I cannot not believe what I am seeing. I have been talking with my boys about doing this for about a year now. I have a rendering in my office of a Mega Cab Square body with a standard 6.5' bed. My plan was to start it in the next 3-6 months...You are starting with a suburban too, just like I'm planning...

Is the white truck in your first post real or was it a photo shop?

I am in to watch how you do it. So far it looks great.

How much did you add past the rear door?

I will be integrating the f@#d colum, instrument cluster, and hvac to the GM dash. I want to cut the steering wheel mounting hole and weld it to the Gm one to have a chevy steering wheel with a already fuctioning column; that way I retain wipers and turnsignals off the f..ff....donor truck.

I've had this idea for about 7 years now. Had I known how inexpensive this would be I would have done it a long time ago. The white truck is a rendering I did on paint. I went 4-1/2 inches back. I based it off the door handle. I liked the length of it and that it would look proportionate. I'm not fond of the short bed because it's really short in the back making the truck look like it's been rear ended. I want both sides an even length...like the f250s. One thing I'd do differently it that I would have sectioned and raised the back of the single cab about 3/4 to 1 inch above the window so my roof doesn't have a small rake back. I don't mined it cause I'm doing a roof rack so it won't be visible.

Re: 1990 Mega Cab, Mid bed 7.3 4x4 (Frankenstein)

Sorry guys. Progress has been slow these past few weeks. I sold the flatbed on the diesel truck and began working in a few things that needed to be addressed on it before the swap. But this past week I haven't touched it as I got laid off this past friday and thought it was the perfect time to open my own shop. Me and my brother rented a 40x40 old body shop with a huge carport and been working on getting that going....my first customer just left. The shops name is Performance Maddlab llc. We will mostly deal with LS powered cars and doing swaps. Im surrounded by body shops so one of those might end up doing the body and paint on the truck.

And if you don't need that suburban rear end, might you sell it?

No progress what so ever. It's about to be 1am and I just got home from the shop. I've been swamped with doing swaps and building fast cars and trucks. I'll keep y'all posted on any progress. Believe me, I stare at this truck in my driveway everyday on the way to the shop. I miss driving my square!

Re: 1990 Mega Cab, Mid bed 7.3 4x4 (Frankenstein)

I was wondering roughly how wide the cab is now from the back door to the back of the cab (this part in the picture) I'm looking for kind of a reference on how it looks to how wide it is I looked at another truck they had done and he said it was roughly 24" which is a little wide then I would like I shooting for about 16" range I like the look of your setup but I guess you're was around the 8 to 9 inch range I need just a little bit more room behind the rear seat I've got a little trick up my sleeve I want to try I'll start a build thead when I get all of my parts I think I'll need and the weather clears up and I don't want to copy anyone's build to close I would like it to be different one last question which frame are using it its a crewcab frame did the front and center body mounts line up or did the require some modifications and any tip on cut placement and tip to help out sorry for the long post and thanks for all the info

The rear portion has 9-1/8" long. I tried making it longer when I did the rendering but it started to look really ugly with an almost plastered/trying to hard look. I wanted more of a subtle look. The frame I'm using is the one ton ford. I'd rather make body mounts on a strong frame then have to reinforce and legthen a suburban frame.

Thanks again for the info I'm afraid I'm not going to like it with the longer back but I really need about 16" behind the rear seat
