Re: Just another old truck.

Hello there Dne'. Yea, it had me scratching my head for awhile. Doing something that you've done before and it not work this time. But we humans have found out there are no problems that don't have a solution. Glad that you've replied cus I acquired something I wanted to show you. I got my own "Little mule" now. Rated up to 450lbs. Lifted That V6 short block on to my engine stand no problem. A friend got a new lift for himself and asked if I wanted his old one. Well DUH, yea! And its custom chrome. Makes it work better.
I almost missed the mirror shot because when you pull up to the window you look to the left to talk to the pharmacy people inside. I started to pull away and had to back up to get the shot. Yeah its cool when you can get a different perspective on something and yeah both my hands are in the air too. Thanks Stepside Jim.
Thank you SCHRUMGMC, me too. Still plugging away at it.

Re: Just another old truck.

Been busy getting alot of little things done or started.I have a tendency to jump around on alot of projects depending on the weather or whim. Here are a few of them. Finally got the bolts for my steering column floor plate installed.
Made and covered arm rests put them.
Did some work for a friend and got paid with chrome mirror arms and V8 emblems.
Went to the wrecking yard looking for one thing and found another. The latches for my front tilt clip. Off a Saab. Dont know what year. Do not know anything about Saabs. More fabbing in my future. Bolts into rear hinge hole.
Welded in somemore bracing for the front end.
Took out the grill and started to clean it up and get it ready for paint. Yellow of course.

Re: Just another old truck.

Got it primerd today.
I had to relocate the holes for the front bumper so had to fill in old holes.
Next little project is to pull off the front bumper brackets and cut 1 inch out of them to put the bumper closer to the body.
The end of July went to Grants Pass "Back to the Fiftys".
And just cuz, here a picture of the guy doing all the work. (Its really fun work).

Re: Just another old truck.

I'm so pleased with your "little Mule" You'll find it's one of the handiest tools in your shop! Would you mind if I post that pic on my Classic Cars and Tools site? You're the first that has sought out one of these handy cranes! I'd link it to your build thread as well. You wouldn't happen to have a pic of it actually lifting the engine would you?
Dne'

PS: I love the pic of you in your truck and the selfie!

Re: Just another old truck.

Hello Dne'. Always glad to hear from you (so to speak). And yes you can post to your web site. I did'nt think to take a picture with the engine in the air. I'm going to use it next to lift the front clip off the truck so I can finish welding and paint. When I do that I'll send a picture your way. It fits my shop just right (10x16) and does everything that I need a small lift to do. Yep, its a keeper. Thanks Dne'.

Re: Just another old truck.

Thanks Kim57.
I try to something everyday even if its just a couple of minutes. Not always successful. Kind of like trying to empty a pool with a T spoon. It seems like the more I do the more I want to do if that makes any sense. This is what I got done today. Yahoo!
Thanks SCHRUMGMC.

Re: Just another old truck.

Hey Rich. Its not only addictive its also very contagious. But its not deadly even in large doses and takes a life time or more to get over. Some of us never recover. No recovery in my future. Thanks. Now on with the wrenching.

Re: Just another old truck.

More pictures of parts done and started. Still using pieces cut from old door to fab patches. Getting low on welding gas so just tacking as many patches for now and will finish later.

Rich, are you posting pictures of your El Camino? If so, Where? I'd like to see them.

Re: Just another old truck.

Earl I am not posting pic of the Elcamino I do have a bunch of pic in my camera but haven't download anything yet . Got all of the rust and body done, primered and painted.
The motor that was in it was cracked. Even though there wasn't any water in the oil or a heating problem. Got a different block with new pistons and the works. Just started it today. I get some time I will post a couple pic on here of the El Camino. Rich

Re: Just another old truck.

Hello again, Back this time with some pictures of my truck in the early days. When I bought him he was only 15 years old and had been used real hard. It took awhile to get him fixed up but I kept him running for almost 24 years. (motor quit in Sept 94). I moved back an forth from SoCal to Ore several times so I put a lot of miles on him. Some of these pictures I posted before.

Re: Just another old truck.

And last for tonight. There is a large span of time that I don't have pictures of the truck. This group of pictures were taken with a Kodak 110.

Re: Just another old truck.

Thank you Denee, Kim, and Katrina. Ok, this is a continuation of post 31 of blasting and painting the frame. Also a trials and tribulations series of photos. I made the mistake on the location of the blasting area. It was early summer and I really didn't think about the rains coming in a couple of months away. My neighbor had some logging done on his property that summer so the ground above our place was real loose. Some of it ended up in my work area.

Re: Just another old truck.

I would pick the low spot on our property. Just happy nothing was washed down stream or damaged. It was just a big mess to clean up. I was also lucky that my daughter had moved from California to Grants Pass and that they had rented a nice old house that had a detached shop. They let me use it while they were there. More of my build later.

Re: Just another old truck.

Didn't want to work on the body work today so I did something else. I'm pretty sure that this happened to few of you. Lost parts. Somewhere along the line I lost a part of the glove box. So its fun time. It just bothered me every time I opened the glove that that piece was missing.

Re: Just another old truck.

Glove box fix. Decided to add a little color to be seen when the glove box is opened. Works just fine now. Maybe someday I might get a light in there.
