Who Knows Poop?
I have had this picture saved and never did anything about it. I know my poops pretty well, but want to hold back on saying what I think to see what others think w/o any influence. I found this along my road not too far from my house. The hand is for scale.

Whatever it is, let it do it peacefully. Too large to tick off in the middle of a poo/

Re: Who Knows Poop?
My East Tn local knowledge says Black bear also .
With the younger generations forgoing hunting they have become just like the deer herds and are found in areas they haven't been in decades . Northern NJ had none in the 70's and now they stroll thru the neighborhoods same with deer they are everywhere . A 700 lb black bear was taken in Nj just a few years ago. Looks like he's been eating wild cherries . Last edited by Grumpy old man; 02-06-2018 at 11:09 AM. |

Re: Who Knows Poop?
Bear....The bears around here (for some reason) like to leave a pile right in the middle of my gravel driveway and they are about twice that size

We even had a Black Bear hanging around my area in Central Iowa for a while. It was just Southeast of town a few miles. It started heading North after hanging around for a month or two and was hit by a car on Interstate 80. That was the first one I ever heard about in Iowa. LockDoc

Re: Who Knows Poop?
In light of the rising frequency of human/grizzly bear
conflicts, the Montana Department of Fish and Game is advising hikers, hunters, and fishermen to take extra precautions and keep alert for bears while in the field. We advise that outdoorsmen wear noisy little bells on their clothing so as not to startle the bears that aren't expecting them. We also advise outdoorsmen to carry pepper spray with them in case of an encounter with a bear. It is also a good idea to watch out for fresh signs of bear activity. Outdoorsmen should recognize the difference between black bear and grizzly bear poop. Black bear poop is smaller and contains a lot of berry seeds and squirrel fur. Grizzly bear poop has little bells in it and smells like pepper spray. |

Re: Who Knows Poop?
Smells like bells & pepper spray. Now that is rich!
Bear is what I was thinking. WOW! I'm not the only one. I was about sure, but couldn't believe it. I think I took that picture a year or more ago and a time or two I have also seen it along my road a good while before. I hear about coyote sightings, if it's that the berries must have given it the runs. I've lived here 30 years, never heard of anyone seeing bear around here. There is good habitat in the area for them, not that there aren't enough houses that you'd expect one to happen into someone's trash or bird feeders, whatever. If someone ever saw one I'd expect to hear about it since it would be bi news. There have been black bear sighted closer to Baltimore in the Patapsco River Valley, which has it's source on the other side of town. I'd say about 8 miles away. I guess the reason I am asking is because I needed reassurance because it would appear that we have bear in the woods around here and I'm the only one who knows. I think this is the third pile of scat in maybe 5 years. Just seems hard to believe it or they have managed to escape being noticed when I found the piles along the road. This was out near a neighbor's mailbox at the end of his lane. There are a few houses on 8-10 acre lots back off the road. The next driveway runs back along a creek in the woods (deep woods), then hooks up a hill out of the woods into the open next to the other house. Then all woods for a while with a large dairy farm across the road, then up the ridge into more deepwoods. Deer cross in that area like you wouldn't believe

WE can send you some bears.
Do you want berry seeds or little bells in the poop?

I've always heard "a wild bear sh*ts in the woods" ..so unless this is in the woods...it couldn't bear a bear...
