Help Figuring out Best fuel tank to use.

My Project is a 58 Apache with a 305 TPI engine and a 700r4 tranny. Relocating the fuel tank is a must and I am trying to figure out the best way to go. I am looking to place a side fill tank behind the rear axle between the frame rails. would like to find a tank that would work with the least amout of modifications. New or pulled I need to find one that will work any suggestion or thread listings are greatly appreciated.

Mac, also there are probably build threads on here that will help out.

Another option is to look through fuel tank dimensions http://www.tanksinc.com/index.cfm/pa...ctory/home.htm

To find one that will work.

Re: Help Figuring out Best fuel tank to use.

I used a tank from a '93 Chevy van. 32 gallons, pump and sender included. It hangs a little low but has never been an issue. In my case I use a bed fill but it could be set up for fender fill. I'm running a TBI engine in my '46. I've been running this set-up for years with no issues.

What kind of tank threads are almost as popular as the "what have you done" threads. They all have some drawbacks from either a functional or asthetic standpoint......or both, including mine. You can find threads on a couple of us who have done Tanks units with internal pumps and different methods of side fill.
MANY have done mustang tanks and IMO, they have problems too. Mine hangs slightly lower than I like but easy to install. Holds slightly less than I'd like, but at my age it will go further than my bladder. It DID cost more than lots of others I've seen. I will say it FILLS great and I've done a couple before that were not so good and I would NEVER put a fill in the bed. And there you have it.

Here's what I did for my 3200 89" long bed.

I have the same tank as Speedbump. Got the idea from him. I did mount mine up just a little higher than he did though.

It's from Tanks, Inc.

http://www.tanksinc.com/index.cfm/pa...prod/prd73.htm

It's perfect for those that don't want to fill from the bed.

What I did for my fill was to cut out the original flange in the cab and found a place on the rear fender with a similar curve and welded the flange in there.

I also tucked this tank in up as high as I could for clearance:

I got a new '65 mustang tank from tanks inc. better than an original mustang tank because the feed is on top and not the bottom. it fits pefect and doesnt hang low.
