Had a visitor today
With the mild winter we had here and the warm temperatures this spring, these guys are out already. Haven't seen any near the house for 2 years, this is the 3rd one already this year. The other 2 were just babies.

Re: Had a visitor today
I was told that the "Baby" ones are worse than the Adults. I don't want to get close enough to find out!

Re: Had a visitor today
I have ate Rattlesnake at The Snake Round Up in Texas. Wasn't Bad but I would rather have a Iowa Beef Steak! The Round up that's another story

This is actually a bull snake, not poisonous, but still don't want him 10' from the front door

I relocated him to the hillside behind the house, lots of varmints in the sage brush for him to play with

Re: Had a visitor today
Agree with the above comments. Mice and other rodents are far more destructive then those snakes.

I beg to differ... mice and rats don't make me soil my pants but snakes do!!!! I hate snakes, lizards, and frogs!!!!!

This one just woke me up as I was trimming trees this morning. It was off the ground about a foot and hissed as I was making my way down the fenceline. Realized it was beneficial after pulling it from the brushy limb but can’t afford to take chances with children running around here so snapped it right away. Plus, I was very close and he pissed me off.

Re: Had a visitor today
I could go through life without any snakes at all, but we would need more cats to eat all the mice and creepy crawly things. I have learned to live with the bull snakes being a natural enemy of the rattle snake. One thing about bull snakes, they are more vicious than a rattle snake. If you piss off a bull he will try to eat you poisonous or not. I found this one last week, had it been a rattle snake I carry a 12 gauge with us all the time.
