Door skin patch panel question

1970 c10
I'm replacing the lower door skin. I already cut and got the panel. I'm welding the seam where the body molding will be.
Question is what is the best way to fold over the edge that goes on the inside of the door.
Hammer and dolly or is there a better way?
Thanks mark

Re: Door skin patch panel question

Well, there are two ways to do this if you aren't going to butt weld it. If you are going to use a stepping tool or a backing plate, I suggest you do this under where the moulding goes so it will be hidden by the moulding. There is a very good chance there will be a "ghost line" there after it's painted.

You can step it with pliers like these that I have.

With the piece clamped to the door it would look like this.

If you do this, be sure to seam seal it on the inside to protect it from water.

Here is a nice little article on using a "butt welding with backing." http://www.autobodystore.com/door_rust.shtml

Thanks. The part I am referring to is the part that folds on the inside of the door.
Thanks.

I think he is wondering about rolling over the sides and bottom.

Re: Door skin patch panel question
