Re: 5.7 TBI in an 86????? Anyone done this swap??

Well we have been putting the truck back together this weekend. We got most of the trim, mirrors and installed new molding. Don't think its going to last long since the chrome isn't very well adhered to the plastic. I'm wondering if there is an OEM quality molding available? It was easy to cut and install. We like the way it turned out. Now, we just need a rear sport bumper and some new tires for the new wheels. Here are the pics:

Used masking tape to make sure the pieces were level.

very nice - my guess you like to wash your truck very often ( and yes I am bit jealous - I have loads of body work to do, but no time nor tools to do it with)

Thanks RF! No, I don't like washing my truck a lot even though mines black too. But this one is my Son's and I tried very hard to get him to pick another color....like white or red.

As for the bodywork and time and tools. I totally understand. This is a super low budget project so there wasn't any cash to pay someone else to do anything on it. So I just squeeze in what I can when I have the funds. Trying to get this thing done

Re: 5.7 TBI in an 86????? Anyone done this swap??

Thanks James! The paint turned out okay, even though I spent a ton of hours on it, I haven't done any in years and it showed. Had some sanding scratches that showed threw the paint and a few dents that I just missed? go figure. Oh well, he is going to be driving it to school the first day and that's the goal.
thanks,

Thanks Heath! I would be happy to paint the K10 for you as long as you do all the body work. and yes he has been all smiles.

Next step, we are lowering it few inches in the back to level it and installing the new wheels. I picked some of the parts to fix the A/C yesterday. Still need to find a better interior. We can do that a little at a time. It will be an ongoing process (when your on a super tight budget) as you guys know.

Yep, working on the update for this weekend. We got the body all just about put back together and I started working on the A/C. Picked up all the parts to get it back going, blew out all the old oil I could get out, intalled the new orifice tube, orings and accumulator. It is currently being vacuumed, I will probably purge the system with dry nitrogen overnight to check for leaks. If it holds pressure I will pull it back down and charge it with oil and r134.

Sounds good you have a build thread?

We charged the a/c and hooked up the new radio yesterday. Got to drive it around the mile section!....with cold air. Just need tires, bumper and a few odds and ends.

Thanks! he is so pumped! I thought it would help more people with their sons/daughters on a slow build with a TIGHT budget.
