700r4 cooling line fittings.
Ok after hours of searching and reading threads till my eyes hurt im stumped. Every post says that the size of the threaded opening in the case is 1/4". Every fitting i have seen for sale had been 1/4". Well mine aint!! i have the 1/4" fittings out of my powerglide and they will basicly fall all the way into the holes in the case. Also all of the fittings are straight thread, but just by looking mine are not only larger but appear to be NPT tapered thread. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Charles |

Re: 700r4 cooling line fittings.
Save yourself some grief. Go to the dealer parts counter. They have the fittings you need. I have bought replacements when I replaced my 700R4 especially if the threads get chewed up a bit. You'll be able to tighten up those 5/16" double flared cooling lines right up.

Re: 700r4 cooling line fittings.
I was thinking they were 5/16"...isn't there supposed to be a adapter there?

Re: 700r4 cooling line fittings.
Originally they were 5/16" OD tube cooling lines, yes there is an adapter for that. The threads are 1/4 NPTS
There are quite a few aftermarket fittings to be had: ACDelco 8637742 Dorman 800-755 There are 6an adapter fittings as well out there.

Re: 700r4 cooling line fittings.
The only 1/4" NPT port on the 700R4 is the test port on the driver's side of the trans. I think those adapters are too big for 1/4" NPT. But either way, you need the adapters for the cooling lines. I should've called the fittings "adapters" in my prev post.

Re: 700r4 cooling line fittings.
Here is a set for 3/8" lines - https://www.ebay.com/itm/3-8-SCREW-I...frcectupt=true
And here is a set for 5/16" lines - https://www.ebay.com/itm/5-16-SCREW-...frcectupt=true Same 1/4 Male NPT (may well be 1/4 NPTS) threads.

Re: 700r4 cooling line fittings.
I must now hang my head in shame. As I originally posted I took the "1/4 inch" adaptors out of my powerglide and they were virtually swallowed by the ports on my 700r4. I am happy, and ashamed, to report the you all were correct. The fittings I need are indeed 1/4" str8 threads. The reason my 1/4" fittings from my powerglide didn't fit is the powerglide doesn't use 1/4" fittings they are 1/8". Thank you all for your help and I'm sorry to be such a dumbass

Re: 700r4 cooling line fittings.
Dont beat yourself up. Just cause you didnt have the info at hand doesnt mean anything at all. 1/4" straight are 1/4 NPS or NPTS. Check the links I posted. You'll be okay. We all learn along the way, I'm learning on this forum every day.
