Re: 47 Step van

Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas, my family did.

Oldman3, thank you. Yes, the brake peddle assembly is something a little different. That is what I came up with. It is because of how far front and how high you set.

Skymangs, thank you. I love making the floors.

99 to life, thank you. Nope, they are going. New dash( just a little longer) and new gauges.

Re: 47 Step van

Still plugging away on the truck while I am on vacation. I made the radiator support/ front body support. It sandwiches the radiator/ wheel well area to hold the front of the body. Then mounts to the frame. I have a section that holds the radiator down into the support. I also have some holes for a filler panel that will go to front of the truck so the air is pushed through the radiator. I have it all mounted in now. Then I started on the steering. I took a universal joint and cut it apart so it will just be a coupling. Tomorrow morning I am going into where I work to turn it down and make a sleeve, then I will TIG it together. Hoping to have the steering in tomorrow. I also am going to make a connecting rod as the drop for the column. So I need to make an aluminum spacer for it. I also worked on the custom hood for my lowered dually because it was raining. I had a steel dual cowl scoop giving to me but it was too long. So I shortened it up and widened it and made 2 intakes in the front. Kinda a cross of a cowl hood and a 442 hood. I love sheet metal!

Re: 47 Step van

Happy new years to everyone!

99 to life, haha, thank you.

Oldman3, thank you. I can not wait to do the filler and paint work on the hood and get it on.

48 GMC BURB, sure it can , just a little more cutting.

Went into work yesterday morning so I could use the lathe and mill. Turned up the ex universal joint. Then turned up a tube to press both ends into. One end is 3/4 30 spline and 3/4 36 spline. They did not make a coupling, so I made one. I am using a clear steer offset box. It is 14 inches from offset to offset. Worked like a dream. I had to make up a bracket to bolt to the frame and the radiator support so it is nice a strong. While a work I also turned up some split bushing for the upper and lower column supports. Ken liked the connecting rod one on the 51 so I am doing another one for this truck. I have to make the upper dash support yet and then I will mount the connecting rod to it.

Re: 47 Step van

Oldman3,thank you, this is the second time I have used an offset box. This one is from wizard fabrication. You an get them every 2". I used the 14" which worked out great. The other one I used is from cen- pen speed shop and there's only come in 5" offset. Both are great units for the pita steering set ups. Worth the money.

Skymangs, thank you.

48 GMC BURB, thank you, sounds good. I love hearing more parts!

Re: 47 Step van

It has been a while since I posted. I have busy with this truck and my 1996 lowered dually. The dually is going to be my daily driver when I get all the bugs out. Well back to the box truck, I made a new dash. It is longer than the factory one that way I could get the air ride stuff in. I then made a 1x1 box tube structure for the upper steering column mount. I then shortened up the connecting rod to fit. I then fit the new dash. After that, I began to work on the drivers inner wheel well. I had to cut a bunch of it out when I put the clear steer box in. I also had to gain some room for the brake pedal too. I made a new front panel and riveted in. I also made a new side cover too, it is removable. I used those nuts that have a clip on them that slide over the sheet metal. It makes it great if you have to get into the side of the motor and brakes. I then pulled everything back apart and primed and painted it. Now I can put it all back together for good now.
