i did the jeep coils swap....i'm just using autozone cheap stock shocks on it....think they were around $20 each, that is what i'm running all around and the ride is good.

Unique is stock, because everyone is doing body drops or laying frame or whatever the popular jargon is. Although it may be the popular thing to do, it is not unique when every truck in every truck publication is laying frame and rolling on big rims and skinny meats...not what I would call unique. More like "one of many".

I think all of you are right, I'm trying to make something that is mine... I don't want it to sit too low but I want something that has a nascar truck look.... The goal is not just to drop it, ultimatley I want it to ride and handle better, looking for more of performance truck.( but on a budget it's difficult) The jeep coils are from a TJ 97-06?.. This was just to buy me some time till I can get the handleing kit that I want, I agree that it looks a little low, But now I know..
Thanks for the input, we'll have to see where it ultimatley ends up  . The gaol is not a cruiser but a donut cutting monster, that wont high side on me!!!

For those of you who care in the 4-5-6 world, or those on a budget... Here is a little update from the weekends progress.... Pulled the front coils.. I used the method of supporting the truck on jack stands on the frame rails, then using a jack on the lower control arms I applied a little pressure and loosened the castle nut from the lower ball joint, leaving it still attached. I used a BFH and couldn't get the ball joints to pop... I had to resort to a pickle fork and the neighbors REALLY BFH!!! Booom! it let go. Both sides gave me a little trouble, but after a little heat, pickle fork, and REALLY BFH I got it... lowered the jack and the coils just fell out, not scarry at all! I then cut 1 full coil plus 3 inches, re-installed using new ball joint boots.. I didn't get exact measurements before hand, but I believe I got about 2 1/2" out of the cut... While it was apart I replaced the upper control arm bushings(very easy), the drivers side was pretty sloppy. Everything else checked out in pretty good shape. All in all pretty happy with the results, its got that nascar inspired stance that I was looking for.. (now I just need a MOTOR!)
Rear dop 10$, front drop 10$ (new ball joint boots) Oh yeah!, Santa if your reading this I need a set of drop shocks, I pefer the good ones! (going to disregard the budget on these!)

She looks great! I had a fit with the ball joints on mine when I rebuilt the front end. I beat on ome for a half hour with a sledge, a pickle fork and a pickle fork in my Snap-On heavy duty air hammer (that didn't do squat!). I finally broke out the tool catalog and bought an OTC front end tool kit. It came with an awesome little tool that will pop ball joints loose in no time and takes almost no effort. Well worth the money spent. I thought those 40 year old parts were welded on!!!

Your truck is looking very good, keep up the good work. I would recommend Doesch Tech shocks. I have used them on 3 different vehicles and they are pretty good. I have the latest set on my suburban and it rides smooth as silk!
They may set you back about 30 bones apiece; just think of all the dough you already saved .

I second that. Doetsch Tech shocks are great lowering shocks. That's what I'm running on my '63. I have Edelbrock Performer IAS shocks on my '97 and they don't ride nearly as good as my Doetsch Techs on the '63 do! I got mine from CPP (Classic Performance Products)

Mean low is right; CPP is a good source and they sell in sets, I BELIEVE. 2" in front would probably accept a stock application. 2" isnt that big of a deal as far as your articulation.......however, if you were to go lower it could run out of travel, I suppose.
2/4 is a common drop combo; shocks may be available as a kit.

Well thanks guys with all the help.. I found a local company (God father custums in Atl) that had a set of drop shocks for my application, ordered them on 12/17(still don't have them yet, rumor has it 1/6) They said they had to be shipped from west coast, but being they were local I only had to pay sales tax... Beats the 90$ shipping I got from one of the popular sites... Slow boat will work (christmas yadda yadda), we've been having a little rain hear in the south so no big deal, Oh well. I did come across something yesterday and wanted to know your input. I found a 73 El Camino engine and tranny donor (350/350 I think,did they do 400 this year?), both checked out fine and for next to nothing I couldn't beat it... Thanks to my buddy that found it
My question is the car is complete... Is there anything else on it that I could possible reuse (on a budget). The rear-end is a ten bolt, I have a 12 in the truck.. Brake booster? Just want to grab everything before I part it out.. Thanks your help it is greatly appreciated.

welcome to the board from your neighbor to the west (Douglasville). I just bought a 65 short bed fleetside myself. It is still at my buddy's shop though. I hope he feels like doing a little with it later today. Ill take the camera if we do. Give me a shout if ya ever need help doing any work.
