Auto column shifter issues
I have a 1971 C10 with a Automatic non-tilt column. I went today and bought a new shift lever(seeing how the ball wasn't on mine). When I went to install it, I couldn't get it to push into the column far enough for the pin to go through the lever. I did get the ball in the slide mechanism.
Is it common to have to modify these repop levers? I was thinking of maybe sanding down the ball just enough to get the lever to go in deeper so it would allow the pin to drop in. Any help is appreciated!

I checked mine tonight and there is nothing in the hole blocking the lever's ball from going in. It feels like it falls in just fine. I'm guessing that maybe the hole is in the wrong location? I can get a pick stuck through the column and lever just fine. I just can't get it pushed in far enough for the pin to fall in the lever's hole. I'm at a loss... Guess I could grind the ball down which will allow it to go further in the column....or slot the hole....

Yeah. I sprayed some wd 40 in there and the mechanism moves back and forth fine. I moved it back and forth while trying to get the pin to drop in and had no luck. I guess I'm going to try and grind down the ball little by little until it fits.

The repop I used in the past worked just fine. Think it was LMC. I know it really doesn't help you.
