Where to get exhaust?

Looking to put some exhaust on my truck now that I just put in my 350. It has stock manifolds and I am looking for the cheapest possible.

I am thinking duals with glasspacks that empty before the tires but where it empties is not a big deal. I was just thinking before the tires because it might be cheaper.

So, who sells something that is cheap that I can mock up myself? Thanks for the help guys.

We have been using the dual exhaust set ups from LMC. They are galvanized, 2 1/4" and are complete with hangers, clamps, and gaskets. Fit is good and they are easy to install. They come with glass paks or stock, with turbos optional. We like the glass paks because we have had problems with the stock mufflers, (the
baffles came loose inside). We have been using these on some trucks since 96 and they are still in good shape. The clamps are light duty and we replace them with heavy duty. The cost of the
glass pak setup is $149 plus shipping.

We like the sound of the glass paks, also.

I have the LMC kit with the turbo mufflers. I installed it last November. So far no problems. I agree with the fit and ease of installation comments above.

Thanks guys, I think that I will go ahead and order up from LMC today. I looked in their catalog and that looks the best. Anyone know how long it usually takes them to get it out? If not, no problem. Once again, you guys come through.

You would probably be better off going to a local shop. They tend to do high quality work, make sure everything is tight and use strong parts. I have glasspacks and chrome tips.... $190 at Rons Exhaust and Tires in Lexington. I am sure you could find a similar place there.

I agree with nroden, support your local muffler man. My 2.5" exhaust, exit behind the rear wheels, was $160 not counting the mufflers I supplied. This was on a 4wd w/ vette ramhorns. You can get summit turbos for $15 a piece.

All of the local shops that I had talked to quoted me something like $350 give or take a few bucks. I explained clearly that I don't want anything fancy, just something that works and is cheap. They said that was the best they could do. That is why I am going to do it myself.

Becuase of what you guys say, I might try calling a few more places for price quotes before I call LMC just in case I luck out and find a place.

I have heard a rumor that if you put glasspacks on backwards that they are louder. Maybe I just fell for the joke or there is some truth to it. As far as I knew, glasspacks were the same, front and back, just one long tube. Can someone clear this up for me. I think the joke just worked and I am on the receiving end.

The shops that I talked to in the Seattle area were quoting me $550.00 and up! I like to support the local guys but I don't want to get bent over by them either!

No joke, it is true. If you look through a cerry bomb, you'll see tons of louvers. The louvers pull the sound waves in through the fiber glass packing, which does a little to hush it up. If you install it backwards, it is almost a muffler less straight pipe.
My GMC was run like that when I bought it. I do not recomend it. If you mus do this, use smaller pipes, and route the pipes all the way to the back of your truck, and out under the bumper. The noise will drive you crazy if you route it any other way (at least if it is a driver). The neighbors won't like you, but the city will love your income they will recieve from all your noise tickets.

If you want super loud run a set of Turbo Tubes backwards, it makes a looud thing louder. At any rate you prices are very high. The shop I was at did a 72 GMC, basic 2 1/4" dual with packs and turndowns just before the rearend for $150 Canadian. It was a young guy strapped for cash and i thought the price he got was fairly cheap but even hear a basic dual with tailpipes on these trucks is $250 or less.

I'd go with a local shop - try to avoid the big chain run stores. Go to a locally owned shop (usually the dirty ones). They depend on your business for a living and will do a good job. I can get stainless duals in Oklahoma for about $350 so a normal dual exhaust job w/ glass is quite a bit less. Also I prefer to have the joints welded instead of clamped, but that's just me...

Just took a tire to for the old 1967 Ford 3000 tractor to Rons today... (the same place I got my exhaust). The tube had 4 holes in it so we decided to replace it...... $10 and thats the labor included. Thats hard to find. Hes a real good guy. I know patches are $5. Then he sells tires, exhaust, and does brake work.

By the way, I know I said F*rd but the old Ford tractors were good. But I like Internationals better.

Well, depsite what some of you guys said, I went ahead and ordered from LMC today. I really did not have the time to do any research being that I need to get this on the road because it is my daily driver.

If I find the time, I can practice my welding on it. I have never welded before and have always wanted to learn. A buddy has a welder that he said he would let me borrow and even show me a trick or two, so this is a good place to start learning to weld.

And as much as I might get from this, I will probably turn those glasspacks backwards. I am running stock manifolds and the kit from LMC is only 2 1/4 all the way to the back. I like it loud, what can I say. Just wish I had the money for flow's or Borla to make the loud sound real nice.

Thanks again guys.

Definitely do some calling around or better yet, stop by a few shops. I got my dual system with Dynomax turbo mufflers for just under $200.00 routed all the way to behind the rear tires. Downside is I think it was just 2" tubing but I doubt going to 2 1/2" would have been much more - now why didn't I do that, grrrr!

I looked at my receipt and mine was $179 instead of $190 like I said. Dual Glasspacks with Chrome Tips.

when i first did my motor was strapped for cash...
bolted glasspacks straight to the headers...
very cheap and didn't sound to bad...
drove it that way for a while
finally got around to hooking up an actual exhaust...
went to discount auto parts and got a bunch of
2 1/2" pipe, angled pieces, clamps, and chrome tips...
and just slopped it all in there...
pipes come out just behind the cab...
louder now...
