Project "Trazer" begins!

A fellow board member mkundo, just dropped off the first phase of project Trazer. Once done it will be a 2wd blazer with a truck cab grafted onto the body. For now we are starting with the frame and suspention work.

List of mods as of now,

Currie built 9" w/drum brakes.
CPP trailing arm and cross member kit.
"C" notches.
rear shock relocator kit.
new lowered springs all around.
Dropped front spindles.
New ball joints and steering links.

Then phase two will consist of a tubular spider tranny cross member, big block buick (I think) and alot of custom body mods.

You can say that again! My shop is only 25x45 and inside right now is a 68 crew cab long bed, 2005 ford Bronco rock crawler, 71 rolling blazer frame, 71 rolling SWB chassie, 71 cab on Tip & Flip dolly, Extra Tip & Flip dolly, 3 welder, 1 plasma cutter, 1 full hydro tube bender (for roll cages), a 4'x4' file cabnit for magazine files, 1 table saw, 1 sliding mitter saw, 2 roll around tool chests (48'w x 70" h), one 45ton iron worker pro, wood burning stove and a beer fridge! And alot of other crap.

As far as the blazer goes what he wants is the top of a cab grafted to the blazer body to make a real short bed uni body truck/blazer. It will be different, kool and I think it is great! He is of the old school with chopped, chaneled merc's and lead sleds and this is his next street rod!

I never saw that one. Would you have a link or some pics. I am still getting my head into the project. I have a few months before the body comes down for mods. Right now it is just frame and suspention work. Then once I finish a few other customer projects and get my 71 SWB a few more steps forward I should have the shop cleared out for the task. Should be a fun build!

I guess this is along the idea of what he wants. We have not gotten real in depth into it yet. Once the frame is done I will go check out the body and his donor cab and go from their. We will do a few sketches and through some ideas around and see what he comes up with.

I had to save it and resize a few times but..

Well I was able to get a few hours in tonight. After 28 rivits to remove I must say I love my plasma cuter! Now that the rear is out I will de-grease what little their is and pull the front suspention and get to work on a re-build. And don't even ask if all the stock rear(12bolt 3.08) parts are for sale or trade because this is not the right forum for that. If you have any problems with that just PM me with your complaint

So what kind of rear susp. is going in?

It is getting the full CPP kit with the new lowered cross member that has the pinion angel adjusted for a 4" drop. Then their tubular trailing arms, 1.5" lowering blocks, 4" lower springs, adjustable full length panard bar, "C" notches and new shocks. Then it he has a currie set up 9" with new axels, drums and inners. Front is getting 2.5" drop spindles, lower springs, new steering parts, shocks and maybe rebuilt A arms and a power steering box. Then posibly a Por15 frame job.

Well the frame is stripped clean, de-greased and preped ready for POR15. Now once it dries it will go into the shop to get C notched and a few other things then paint time and re-assembly.

C-notch time! Well first off I want to say the kit is very well made and is from CPP. What I do not like about it is the directions, they leave something to be desired. First thing you want to do is remove the rivits in ther bottom of the coil spring plate(2 per side) and then remove 2 more infront of the panard mount. Next hold up the Notch and aling the front of the side plate with the rear edge of teh oval hole in the frame. Once this is aligned then mark the frame for cutting. Cut the notch tight at first and trim it little by little to fit just right making sure the oval hole lines up as shown. You will also need to trim off a bit of the coil spring mounting plate on the out side of the frame so your notch sits tight to the side of the frame rail. Once this is done, clamp the plate to the frame and smack it with a hammer to ensurte it is seated all the way. Install the bolts that you can and snug then up but do not tighten yet. Now mark all the rest of your holes that need drilling and center punch then drill out to 7/16" (for CPP's kit). After all holes are drilled remove the plates and paint any part that will be clamped together as you wil not be able to get to this after they are installed. Now tighten the bolts (note one bolt had to be cut because it hit another bolt next to the panard mount) in the order givin in the directions. Now paint everything and install the bump stops in the top of the notch's. We will be welding ours in some spots (per the customers directions) for added strenght and painting the entire frame with POR15. Well that is as far as I got tonight. I will Tig it up tomarrow and move on to the front suspention.

Try time! Welded in the notch's and preped the frame and went to town. I just love how POR15 flows and melts together. Now it is in my heated redneck paint booth to try (Large garage with wood burner). I will start the front suspention rebuild later today.

I will prep the rest of the parts in the next day or so and start putting it all back together. I used my 45ton iron worker pro (punch,break and shear) to pop out the lower ball joints. That came out like they were not even their.

I did a bunch of those rivets, the hard way!! I used my cutoff wheel and knocked the heads off then had to air chisel em out. I had rust in my plates (NC by way KY!) I thought the world would end before I got all of them out (same plates as shown in your pict). I need a TIG!! I am certified, but they are spendy for home use, great work!!

Just about done! I will get the rest of the part on Thursday when the owner stops by. I am just missing the new tubular trailing arms, rear 9" backing plates, front spindles and front springs.
