50 Holes in the ole' tin roof

"There was 50 holes in the ole tin roof, me and my family was livin proof. There's people who forgot about poor white trash, and if that ain't country I'll kiss your..."
David Alan Coe

We're tearin this old garage down in the next few weeks. We got enough $ to build a 30x32 2 story garage with full upstairs storage/work area. The first story is designed to be 16' tall so we can have a 2 post lift on one side. The money's in the bank, building permit approved, demolition has begun on the old shack. This garage has served it's purpose, but it's been a dream since 96 to have an awesome workshop. I'ts finally all falling in place. After it's complete I can dive into the 72 SWB hard and heavy...bags....here it comes! I'll keep you all posted on the progress. The wife and I are soooo exited!!! Just had to share!

Congrats!! Keep us posted on your progress.

I waited 60yrs, patched farm equip., and built toys laying in the wind and dirt raising our 4 kids before we got a nice shop. Enjoy when complete--

just make sure you add on a porch where you can have "4 stacks of wheels and tires for sale, for a dollar or two, CASH" DAC is the MAN!!

I have to agree. that shed has served it purpose. it looks like it has been rode hard and put up wet.

Re: 50 Holes in the ole' tin roof

You need to cut that tin down and use it for siding along a wall in the new shop. It will add some character to the place...

Re: 50 Holes in the ole' tin roof

I dont see anything that a little paint and a couple pieces of tin wouldnt fix!

I had a barn that looked like that at my place that I tore down a few years ago. I really wanted to save it, It used to be the town blacksmiths shop, but it was so ate up with termites there was no saving it.

Here are the pics of the demo...and the visit from the G.V.F.D.

They said our fire was legal because we were only burning wood, but we're not allowed to burn after dusk...

Re: 50 Holes in the ole' tin roof

Day 3...the dreaded jackhammer...

Since the old concrete was never poured right, and the footer was only about 6-8 inches this little 110V electric hammer worked fine. It did get heavy after a while tho

Hey, Tommy...that ain't gonna work on that stump!

All that is left of the 20x12 shack

And now we have the stringers in place and the utilities marked. I also bought an 18' x 24' tarp for the 72 and all the junk in the back. The excavation company quoted $450 for the footer. He'll be here this week sometime.

Too late, it's at the scrap yard. We got a whopping $24 for it! It kind of got destroyed in the demolition.

Re: 50 Holes in the ole' tin roof

9 Am thursday (7/17) the hole's getting excavated. 30x30 36+ inches deep. Not sure the details, that's why I contracted the foundation. I can frame, but I can't lay concrete. Anyone want to come over and help watch? Free beer!

Re: 50 Holes in the ole' tin roof

If you build the garage for me so I can stand and drink beer, watch, and do nothing, I'll give you the tow hooks, and the tach dash. Heck, I'd probably thow in my 85 Silverado 4x4 Big Ten.

Re: 50 Holes in the ole' tin roof

On the 23rd the backfilling started...

And that's me in my cheap sunglasses and employer issued leather.....

And the idiot ran over one of my column forms with the loader

before....

after...

and my son Kodi found a cool place to hide from the July heat...

and on the 27th I was king of pea gravel....and Coors.

On the 28th we just did some more minor leveling of the pea gravel....and played on the Polaris....best $300 I ever spent, $15 to make it run....

this is where the Polaris went over the wall...
