Re: Door poppers?

Yup, I got them. Shaved door handles with remote bear claw latches and door poppers. They work great.

Re: Door poppers?

Can you explain how they work a little bit? You dont have power locks right? If so does the bear claw work as a lock. I guess my real question is can i just run door poppers and not have somebody be able to pull my door open. What do you mean by remote bear claw latches? i know what bear claw latches are but....

Re: Door poppers?

The bear claw latches are controlled by an electric solenoid, which is operated by a remote control - the same controller as the alarm system. Go to the link below for more info and pics.

Re: Door poppers?

Most important, use the bear claw latches! Don't make the same mistake I did and try and use the factory latches, they don't work that well and somtimes the door opens and somtimes they don't. I well be replacing the factory one for the bear claws.

Re: Door poppers?

I am using them with the original latches, however, as Poncho and Cal have done, if I had it to do over again, I would use the bear latches. I haven't had any problems yet, but I am sure it is only a matter of time...........

Re: Door poppers?

is the bad part of the stock latches just the design while bear claw latches are more secure?? I think im gonna go for this if i can get the dead-battery problem solved. If i hook another cable on to the one like poncho and route it through the door and into the fender with extra length so it wouldnt pull through when the door is opened would that work? I want a cleaner way, i dont like the thought of my emergency cable being inside the fenderwell
*EDIT* if i can get that cable into the engine bay.. I guess my only question is how to get it from the door to the cab..

Re: Door poppers?

are you refering to a cable to open the door if the battery goes dead? if you leave the passenger side stock and battery goes dead all you will need is the key to open the truck. the stock door latches are really a poor design. i remember the door of a 53' i was riding in as a kid flying open and being tossed out, thank god we were in a field and other than having to ride home in the back because i was covered in animal crap i wasn't hurt. were talking about a 2 ton truck with 14,000 miles on it. never leaned against a door ever again.

Re: Door poppers?

prostreeter, do your solenoids pull that bar to activate the latch?? Im trying to figure out how this all works. I see in another thread poncho has a cable set up, if i were to use bear claws and run a cable off the bear claw into the solenoid like you have then have an emergency cable run off the second loop, ill photochop a picture later to explain, thanks for the help

when you say leave the passenger side stock meaning leave the door lock teardrop in, then if your battery dies you put your key in and that would pop open the door? im confused

No need to "feel dumb".......the fact is, I think that you can find "poppers" that operate on the "pull" system, or the "push" system....depends on your application.

if you are getting bear claws and solenoids to pop open the latch, then your getting door poppers. Actually the door popper is the little spring that goes in the door jamb to push the door opened and keep it from relatching when the solenoid opens the latch. Then you got the door pop solenoid that opens the latch.

http://www.a1electric.com/Merchant2/...ode=94000-REM4

if space in the doors allows, this would be a great kit as the latch and solenoid are 1 unit

you could also try these but you will still need the bear claw latch kit

And can't forget ebay, autoloc makes a nice bear claw latch and solenoid combo. If i could get on ebay at work id provide a link to it, but its blocked.

very nice kit and if you decide to get them, ive ordered stuff from that store before and they are very trustworthy.
