After seeking some replacment BFGs for my truck, 295/50 15s out back and 225/70 15s up front. The dude at Tires Plus told me that BFG no long makes 295/50 15s and I would have to settle with some puny 275/50 15s.

Anyone else still making these 295/50-15s that are in the reasonable $120ish range?

pep-boys has them cheap. about 70 or 80 a piece I think. they're futura ss's. I turned mine with the black side out.

everybody around here says there just on backorder and i emailed bfg about it a couple of weeks ago and they said they should be back in stock in june.

I tried finding 295/50/15s for my truck last winter and was faced with the same thing. I found that Cooper tires makes a good 295/50/15 tire and the tire is a fairly quiet runner (all for a good price). I put a set of them on my 91 Silverado, but since then, I have now changed over to a 17" billet rim with a 275/50/17 tire on the back and a 255/50/17 tire on the front. I am now running NITTO 420S tires and Billet Specialties "Qualifier rims. I thnk that this will be a good combination for my DD. I believe that the wider 15" tires are going to the wayside---so I changed up in rim sizes.

Yea - at least you can get your size.

BFG was the ONLY manufacturer of 285/70/15's.
I have a pair of those I just took off with some miles left on them. Some people think they are like gold. They aren't made - period.

I had to go with different sizes all around to get mine to look right.

Pep Boys price on those has shot up to 103 each. When I bought all 4 of my 275/60/15 there, I paid $59 each and thought about going with the wider tires for the back for only a few more bucks but didn't. I'm sorry I didn't

You can still get Hoosier Pro street radials in similar sizes but they are like $200 each!

I work for a Bridgestone tire manufacturing plant and I build these for a living, the problem with the 15" sizes is that most all of your auto makers are going with the bigger size 17"-20" and there is just no market for the smaller size tires. It ticks me of because I have some nice 15" wheels in several styles and was looking for a 305-50-15 that BFG used to make but you will not find them anymore.

I never thought they figure out a way to eff up something as simple as a tire.And we always thought they just needed to be round.Now,fads havechanged such a simple thing into an expensive and complex thing.How did we ever survive with 15" tires since before most of us were born?I was never aware of any flaws to this design,so why change it?

I'm with you Tim.
In the early years of the automobile very large diameter wheels n tires were the norm. As the automobile progressed the wheel diameters became smaller and tires became shorter with lower aspect ratios. It was progress.
Apparrently the design reached a stopping point and with no place to go the designers have turned it around and started going back the other way. The production vehicles now have larger wheels n tires and with 22, 24, 26" and more diameters it looks pretty certain in the not to distant future we will be seeing vehicles looking like they've had a 2 foot lift kit put on em because of the huge wheels. It's called progress?
The only positive I can see out of it is changing the oil got easier. No ramps or floor jacks required............

Tall wheels/low sidewalls is a race track concept.These vehicles are as light as they can get them and the main concern is to enhance cornerling at ultra-high speeds.The less aide deflection,the better the handling.Race track have as near perfect pavement as possible and are kept clear of debri.The other big reason for such a design is to fit oversized brakes on a car that`s running ultra-high speeds.It`s a Porche/Ferrari kinda thing.I`ve seen blingy trucks with ovalled rims before.I have to laugh.I see guys looking for a way to fill in all that empty space showing uglyness through their high-dollar hoops.If I ever ran larger than normal (or what`s supposed to be normal) wheels it would be to fit the bigger & better brakes that I put on my too fast truck that I wanted to zip around the curves in.I just like function mixed with my form.
It used to be nice to be able to travel knowing if you had a blowout you could get another tire in Anytown,USA and be back on the road in no time.Now,you have to cross your fingers and hope they have one the one size from a multitude of possibilities in stock and also hope you have enough spare money to buy it.They can`t make tires so cheap when they can`t run-off or sell as many.It used to be you had to pay to play.If you wanted specialty tires it was going to cost you and you`d sacrifice a bit of practicality for that special ride.nNow,it`s whatever you drive and even getting to be tough for the guy that just wants to run the good ole normal sizes.The minority is becoming the majority.When change is for the better I`m all for it.But,change for the sake of change?That gets on my nerves.At least when it comes to a necessay commodity.For hobbies,art/style,and fun...go for it.It`s your life.

I recently went to buy some 15" tires for my daughter's truck, 99 model. I go in knowing full well the market has gone to the larger size tires and the tire dealers will stock less and less of them due to demand. But I was blown away when the twerp salesman told me the 15" tires aren't being made anymore. SAY WHAT? Nosir he says. I said so what are all the millions of owners out there with vehicles with 15" tires going to do? Buy new larger wheels just so they can put new tires on them? I DON'T THINK SO! He had a blank look on his face. I left him standing there.
There will be 15" tires available for a lot of yrs to come. The choices may not be much however. Decreased demand will limit choices for us older 15" guys. I feel like when this "trend" runs it's course the "normal" wheel sizes will come back to about a 17" or so.

My Stude was built around 285/70/15's and I agree, you can't get them anymore. Once the 71 GMC is done, I'll be forced to put deeper wheels tubs in the Stude and go with the Mickey T's.

One of the main reasons for the larger wheels is to increase brake size.I dont think 15s would even fit on my 2001 dodge without hitting the calipers.Im like a lot of you thinking wheel sizes will come down to 17s once the current fad is over.

Hey 49Stude....you need to do the bumper mod to that thing man.

I went to a different tire store here to see if I could get the 295/50s in another brand. He had a set of 85% used take-off Handcooks instock he gave to me for $50 a pop. And hes got a pair of 235/60-15s on order.
