retro-sound truck stereo radio

Mods- sorry if you think this belongs in the audio section. I thought I might get more response in this forum first.

Anybody have any experience with retro-sound radios?
http://www.retrosoundusa.com/products/details/id/9

I'm looking at all the options available that don't require dash cutting. I did a search of this forum for this radio but did not come up with any results.

Re: retro-sound truck stereo

I have looked at the vintage auto and custom auto sound radios. They are also on my list. I think I like the looks of the retro sound better but I can't find anyone who has experience with it yet.

Re: retro-sound truck stereo

Custom Autosound sucks! I disconnected mine and installed a Panasonic in a center console. Couldn't get any volume to speak of and lots of static. The Panasonic works great with the same hookup. Try something else.

That retro sound looks pretty cool. Not a terrible price considering.

Re: retro-sound truck stereo

That retro radio looks like a good deal - don't have to cut the dash and everything you would want on a radio. Those videos are pretty good too. I'm definitely gonna look a that when I get something for my truck.

Re: retro-sound truck stereo

This RetroSound looks pretty damn cool. I like that you have an aux input AND the USB. You don't even need an MP3 player!

The only thing I would ask for or change is to have the aux and USB inputs available in the rear as well. I'd rather run the cable behind and under instead of having it hang by the cable from the front.

I was thinking about a custom console to house my Zune an amp, and some speakers, but this may just be the trick that I need. Definitely on my list.

I agree but otherwise this is a great idea. I have been looking for something like this for a while. Nowdays who wants a cassette or even a CD player. If I have my MP3s (and Sirius Satellite) I'm good to go. I bet you could easily splice into the front aux input so you could have another connection in the back of the radio. Maybe $10 at Radioshack...hopefully the sound quality wouldn't go downhill.

Sorry I posted the link guys... I didn't know they sell crappy products. Is it that it didn't work up to par?

Custom Autosound uses the cheapest China-built stereo unit they can buy with a good looking front plate and knobs. They look the part, but the sound quality is terrible in my experience.

Your sound quality is only as good as the speakers you are using...I have used Custom Autosound and had no problems with it...but if you can find something better, go for it!

I just put one in my truck and it's ok, I was more into the look and since I only paid $100 and it was new I can't complain. If you pay retail I would convert a stock radio. There are companies out there that can convert your old radio to digital and you can run your mp3 and all the new stuff.

The $279 Price I saw on one website is scary, because it is a cheap stereo with a new face. They remind me of the old Kraco decks

I read somewhere that some of these conversions basically are a cheap Chinese manufactured radio that's stuffed in the old cannister with some changes to accommodate the knobs, etc. I don't have first hand experience on this, just what I read.

Re: retro-sound truck stereo

Just about every car stereo made today is Chinese. Custom Autosound uses Kenwoods. I personally do not know of any American manufacturer of car stereos. Getting your original stereo retro-fitted sounds like the way to go, if it is indeed possible.

One of the guys on this Camaro forum ordered one but hasn't recieved it yet. I will be watching to see what he says. So far the RetroSound gets my vote...at least until someone gives it a bad review.
