Helo from San Diego

Obviously my name is Mike, I bought a 69 C20 about six months ago for $700 from the original owner who was planning to give it to a homeless shelter I asked him how much he would sell it for and he said $1000, feeling he was not firm on the price I countered with $700 and he said "ok". My current plans are to convert it to a C10 swb, mostly because of the resale value and I like the look of them better. A friend of mine and this fourm "backyard88" steered me to rokcrln's low buck truck build where he shortened the long bed and frame, that thread was exactly what I was looking, it was very informitive and well documented.
I am a welding instructor as well as a fabrcator and feel comfortable taking on this challenge. I am not a body man so this will be a challenging part. I look forward to learning alot on this build as well as sharing my experiences.

The tires are just sitting in front of the old wheels to see if I like them

Re: Helo from San Diego

Well a little bit about me, I grew up with a Dad who was crazy about Fords. Although I like most of the big three's styling, I have owned mostly Fords in my life. But I used to drive a '71 C20 with a 454, 4:11 gears and a shift kit for company truck. I would surprise more sports cars with that truck, I really loved it, and was bummed when it was time to sell it. When an older friend of mine said that he knew a guy that was getting rid of one I just had to have it, So here I am on the other side of the fence, and loving it. In my younger days I really loved to modify things to make them my own, as my dad did before me in his hot rodding days. He took about 40 years off while he worked to support our family, all the while saying "one of these days Mike...". Well I was determined that I would not say that to my kids. So here I am, a little inspiration and alot of advice, hopfully not a whole lot of money and I will have a really cool project that will inspire others to build what they see in their mind not just what the catalog says they can afford.

There are some things that need repair on the house and my wife keeps gently reminding me. So I need to shift gears for a while, also need to figure out if I owe or get money back from taxes. I can't wait to see it as well.
