Unity spot light
well my ex's pa has an retired police truck with a unity spotlight on it and my ex now drives the truck but she hates the spotlight so i talked her into letting me have it so she is gunna stop by tomorrow and ima take it off...now i was wondering has any one done an install on this year of truck and for reference this is what im talkin about

I've got dual Unity spots on my '78. You need the correct installation kit and the correct spotlight which are generally year specific. The installation is not difficult, so long as you have the right tools and follow directions EXACTLY. I've installed spotlights on dozens of trucks and collector cars.

I had one on my 77, but it was mounted in the door. It didn't work good and
it wasn't very areo at all, plus if I flipped it down by the windshild I couldn't open the door, so I left it sticking out all the time. I put the doors with the light on this 73 I sold. |

best advice i can give you is to remove it from her truck and take good measurements then while her truck is next to yours mark your truck and measure again then make the holes... you can also take paper or something and make a template

Poke, contact Unity. They can supply you with the correct installation kit, directions, and the mounting template. This is one installation you can't afford to screw up. You need to do it right the first time. The spotlight mounts on the "A" pillar, not the door. The spotlight itself has to be the proper length for your specific truck. You don't want to install a spotlight that may be too short or too long. If you can tell me what vehicle the spotlight came off of, and what vehicle it's going to be installed on, I can point you in the right direction.

^^^^ poke take his advice, ive seen some pretty botched attempts at this...
i dont wanna see you have to do a bunch of repairs that you could avoid by using the proper install kit and template etc.. not trying to be harsh , just tryin to save a headache |

Poke, if your "A" pillar has been repaired/rebuilt, you may not want to chance this installation. You may have noticed that a lot of emergency vehicles, in particular ambulances, no longer have spotlights installed on the "A" pillar. This is a safety measure, since a penetration into the "A" pillar will weaken the vehicle's roof support and cause a catastrophic roof collapse in the event of a vehicle rollover. Police cars are a different matter, since Ford, GM, and Chrysler have a spotlight option on their police-class vehicles that does not involve penetration into the "A" pillar. An option, if you really want a spotlight, is the roof-mount installation. However, that requires a specific spotlight from Unity.
