S-10 Conversion Questions

1. For the guys who built there own cab mounts are any of you guys using the orginal factory front bed mounts? I read the AG instructions and it said to cut them off, and I just wanted to confirm.

2. Does anyone have good mock up photos of how they did the motor mounts, and raditor mounts? I'm planning on installing a flat fire wall with no notch for the distributor if I can get away with it. I hope I dont have to use a *****in' firewall as I personally like a flat smooth firewall better. JMO...

3. What is the difference between the GMC and Chevy front fenders for a 1950? I would like to purchase some new front fenders and I found some Chevy fiberglass ones for a good price. I 'm going to be using the GMC grille no matter what so can I use the chevy fenders?

4. Last question. When I got my truck the front was completly disassembled and I was wondering what parts am I missing? I will list the all stuff I have. 2front fenders, hood, outer grille (goes around the grille), and the grille. Thats it...

Thanks for the help everyone.

Re: S-10 Conversion Questions

50 GMC,

I will chime in with my 2 cents worth.

1. The factory bed mounts will need to be removed. You could fab your cab mounts to match the bed mount height but that would leave your cab really high off the frame. Your better off mounting the cab at the height you want and then make new bed mounts.

2. Im in the process of setting my motor in. I will post pix on my thread (50 5 window ss10 swap) as soon as I get it in. I will have tons of pix when Im done.

3. Not sure if there is a difference in the chevy/gmc fenders. Im sure someone in the forum will know.

4. Not sure what your plans are with the truck but if you are going back stock here is what your missing. Inner fenders, upper and lower hood latch plates, radiator core support, splash apron, fender braces and inner fender braces.

Hope this helps.

Re: S-10 Conversion Questions

1. I will refer you to my build thread, it shows how I mounted my cab. rear, is original shackle mounts, front is the rear s10 cab mounts trimmed and swapped sides. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...0&postcount=26

2. If you want to have a flat fire wall you probably don't need to use the s10 v8 conversion kit, that should give you enough fire wall clearance, but then you might have issues with radiator clearance.

3. Not sure.

4. rhodog77 has it covered.

Good luck with your build.

Re: S-10 Conversion Questions

All I can address is #4 and recommend you get a factory assembly manual. It will show all the little parts and pieces you will need and order of assembly. Hopefully your project came with a box of misc stuff and and well labeled baggies of bolts and small stuff.

Re: S-10 Conversion Questions

I also have a ton of pics I can send you. I just painted my chassis this weekend and assembled it. I used the factory mounts but I had to knoch the running board brackets.
