04 Trailblazer

In my wife's 04 Trailblazer, it's like the brake pedal moves really far before anything happens, and sometimes it feels like the bloody thing isn't going to stop.
This is only made worse by the fact that my wife just rear ended somebody on the highway about 15 minutes ago (fender bender... nobody hurt).
What can I do to make the brakes feel more... like they're there?

Re: 04 Trailblazer

Thant sucks about the fender bender.

First of,how is the pad material and brake fluid?
Have you always had a low pedal or has it come about over time?
Do you have any warning lights come on at all?May have a code.
Are some knowen problems of going into false ABS while trying to stop, which produces a very low pedal (sometimes just before the floor) and can result in low pressure at the wheels.
Most times when this happens you will hear or feel the ABS pump cycle and sometimes get a warning light or dinger.

In order:
1)Fine and Fine.
2)Always. It stops fine, and has brakes, but it just doesn't feel... good...
3)Nope
4)No warning light, or dinger. And I haven't felt the ABS kicking on... What all can I check on this? Hell... what do I have to do to disable ABS anyway? Never liked ABS.
