10 second Fleetside

I took these at Firebird a couple of weekends ago. The owners were not around so I couldn't get a shot of the engines. I was going to chrome my grille but after seeing this grey on blue (my exterior color choice) I think I am going just paint it.

Rubber Rat, it was the Halloween Classic. The racers decorate the pits and their cars. Lots of costumes too. Great fun.

Re: 10 second Fleetside

Nice pics... As far as the grill goes Do you have a powder coater near you?? If so I my guy has a powder that looks just like the shiny finish on jet coated headers... He did the grill and bumpers on his truck and it looks great... He has my bumpers now for my 54... I will try and get some pics..

Re: 10 second Fleetside

Lots of powdercoaters around here, they can do full frames if you want. Can you powdercoat over bondo, my grill will needs some minor work.

Re: 10 second Fleetside

No, we wandered by twice and no one was in the pits. I'm guessing for that it's a BB crate motor with lots of carburation. You can hide a lot under these big ol' hoods. Hopefully he will be back next season.

i think the powder sticks to the metal using static then it is baked on. if im right then i dont know how good it would be at sticking to bondo. im no powdercoater though.

Orrie,

A special filler exists that will take powdercoat. Your local shop should be able to fill you in.

Re: 10 second Fleetside

Thanks, must have metalic base mixed in with the plastic so it takes the charge.

Re: 10 second Fleetside

Orrie, check this out http://www.alvinproducts.com/Content.asp?id=20 It may be what you need but I'd print out the page and ask the powder coater first before buying it.

I was always under the impression that you had to have bare metal due to the heat and electrical charge involved.

I'd venture to say to be able to run tens that truck has some serious horsepower under the hood.

Re: 10 second Fleetside

Here is a pic of the truck.... hard to see the color but it is shiney almost like anodized trim... The bumper and grill are both powdered..

Re: 10 second Fleetside

I'm warming up to the idea of that on bumper too instead of chrome; different. I could maybe use my Fleetside back bumper too since it needs some extra holes welded up (poor bumper guard install by PO). Powdercoating can't be much more than the $260 each Ogden Chrome wants.

I also really like the green wheel, I am so over red....
