LS1 year questions

Hey guys, I have a line on a wrecked 99 van (sposed to be 3/4 or 1 ton)
And I was wondering... being a 99 would it have a LT1 or a LS1 ??? Either way cast iron block & heads correct ???

Also if it is a 3/4 or 1 ton, wouldnt it have a 4L80E ???

Just really would like to have a LS1, but either way Ima try to get the parts

Also, did GM change the bell housing pattern when they went to LS1 ???

Thanks, Matt

Re: LS1 year questions

A 1999 G-van would actually have the trusty ole L31 5.7L 350 or possibly a L29 7.4L 454. The LS series (4.8, 5.3 and 6.0L) engines didn’t appear in the G-vans until 2003. If the van is indeed a 2500 or 3500 it would have a 4L80E.

And yes, LS engines still use the same ole Chevrolet Bellhousing that has been around for over 50 years.

the trans will bolt up on both the LS and non LS engines but you have to get a custom converter if you wanna run a other gm trans like a 700r4, th350-400. but no need to worry about that, since its a non LS engine the 4l80e will bolt up to what ever you want.

You dont need a custom converter. advance adapters has a kit that has a spacer and flexplate. 6.0s with the 4L80E came factory with a crank spacer
(99 6.0s had a special crank with the spacer made into the crank)

Where did this number come from? you dont know what engine it has.

you say "at the rear wheels" thats a hard thing to guess. 4L80Es sap alot of power. So does a 14bolt diff. GM doesnt publish rear wheel horsepower

ive seen it with my own eyes, L31 put down 195hp all it had was exhaust. it was a 2wd tahoe with a 4l60. your correct i dont know what engine it has but since its in a van its most likely goin to be a L31.

i would just prefure not to use adaptors, im sure he isnt goin to use the stock converter anyways. might as well get the correct one.

Re: LS1 year questions

I have the adaptors to run a Th400/350 on the LSx blocks if you need them. We had a ton made for the local jeeps we do the swaps in.

and we normally just take the LSx flexplate and redrill the TC mounting holes.

TCI makes a kit that has the flexplate and spacer, if you want that kit let me know.

Just look at the current FP and see if it has the crank spacer behind it, the 6.0s sometimes do and if that is the case you do not need anything, might have to redill the FP but otherwise you are good to go.

as for the bellhousing, the LSx has 8 bolts, to put the older GM trans to the newer motor just use 6 bolts, a 7th might line up but we just use the 6bolts.
