05 6.0 Help

Hey All,

I am working on a 2500 HD 6.0 and here are the symptoms. The truck overheats at idle. Its not consistant though. The customer wanted me to change the t-stat, so I did and I flushed the coolant and replaced it with some fresh dex cool.

The coolant temp was about 40* off so that was replaced also. It took forever to get all the air out of the system. I was looking for a bleeder valve but couldnt find one.

I know there is a TSB out there for trucks with plows having an overheat condition with the plow on and driving slow. Is there anyway to check the fan clutch? This happened to the customer so I am not sure how long he drove it hot. When the cap was off the resivoir the coolant was jumping out of the bottle so I am not sure if there is a HG issue here either. I dont smell coolant in the exhaust, it has good heat, so I know the tstat is working.

Oh yeah its a 4x4 with a plow, the plow was on it when it overheated on the owner, the plow is not on it now, and it still over heats on me after the repairs.

Thanks for the help.

Sarge

Re: 05 6.0 Help

when driving the temp is fine?
Remove T-stat and see if water is flowing and if that solves the issue.

I had a LS1 swap and driving around things were fine but at idle/red light the temps would get up in a hurry. I replaced water pump no change. took out thermostat and all was fine.

I know you said you replaced the T-stat but it could be faulty too....but if you removed it you can tell if the pump is moving the water.

Re: 05 6.0 Help

You think these are bad, should have done an LT1, now that is a PITA....
What alot of people do not realize is they have to fill the block up first on the truck motors and then fill the radiator.
