Flat paint on AD's

Ok so there is the two tone paint job thread so I thought I'd see if anyone has any pics of flat paint jobs??

The wife is thinking either all blue (flat) or Red and Black (flat) or Red and white (flat), and flat is real hard to simulate in Photoshop. So if you have any pics of flat paint jobs post them up!

Re: Flat paint on AD's

The flat red and white sounds interesting. I would like to see something like that as well.

Search the HAMB, Killbillet, Rat Rods Rule, etc. but you'll get more information than you can handle in one night.

Check out the pictures in my album for an example of John Deer Blitz Black tractor paint.
Umm... I know there's tons of different "kinds" of flat and pros and cons about them. I wasn't asking advice/suggestions on flat/satin/eggshell paint, I'm just looking for pictures/ideas.

Kind of like this thread http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=374264 where he is looking for two tone paint jobs....

Re: Flat paint on AD's

Some flats like on the light blue truck above are probably two stage paints without the clear.

In error I was 35 years early on the fad in 1973 and I painted my truck 1972 Chevy Monte Carlo Gold and didn't know that it needed to be cleared to really shine. I don't have any photos on the net but it looked just like a lot of these satin paint jobs that we see now.

I've run the truck in primer so much in the past 20 + years that I'm tire of flat paint, primer or tinted primer and want it to shine next time.

Re: Flat paint on AD's

they didn't leave out the clear, PPG and Duplicolor (probably others) make flat, satin and semi gloss clear coats to get this effect.

Stacey David did a project called The KnuckleBuster where he painted a '73 C10 with a regular black base but covered it with I think a PPG "Egg shell" clear that gave it the satin effect. He said you could shoot any color under the egg shell clear to get the "flat" or "satin" effect.

fyi...

Re: Flat paint on AD's

About 10 years ago I used satin blue on my 1947. I don't have any pics on my computer, but it was a tintable primer from Valspar made any color you want. They mixed it like paint, and it held up very well with very little fade over about 7 years.
