How can I lock my hood and have a release from inside the cab. It stinks that anyone can just open it and that will be bad when I get my audio stuff and such installed.

Second Question is that I want to insall kick panels and put a componet set in there. Does anyone have pictures of this done? I need some ideas on how to make it so that I can still use my high beam switch.

Are there any other modifications that I should consider for my 68/72?

I've considered using a hood release off a newer vehicle. I think if you take a few measurements to get the right one it would work, that would be a good idea, and as for the speakers, I think they might be hard mounting them on the kick panel, maybe try under the dash, under the seat, doors, just a sugestion.

You can use a hood latch off of a newer vehicle and modify it to fit, or you can get a universal hood latch kit (good ol' J. C. Whitney). Kick panels made to mount speakers are available from several vendors. There is a list of vendors on the home page of this site, and you can also use the search function for more options.

I am building some boxes from MDF to mount some JBL 4" speakers on my kick panels, for components I think your only way would be to get something custom made. Most good car audio installers can build such a set-up out of MDF/fibreglass, but be prepared to pay some $$.

I have just done the kick panel speaker route myself. I used 6 1/2" Pioneers that I put in the pre-formed panels from Classic Heartbeat. They fit well- I had to move the parking brake over about 3/4" and it works. If you go the kick panel speaker route, don't put them on, then attempt to shove the carpet into place. I tried this the first time, and didn't like it. It tends to bunch up and gets in the way. I cut a strip of sound deadener (I have the real heavy stuff) away and it formed a depression along the edge, and the kick panel covers fit down in that. I can still hit the dimmer if I am wearing my tennis shoes but not with boots on (I wear a 13). Good luck!

Thanks for all of the replies. I plan on making my own custom kicks out of fiberglass, plus the rear enclosure and the under dash piece that will house the H/U, switches and guages. I will have to just play aroud with and see what works best. I will consider mounting them under the dash or maybe just to corner under there. I don't have to work about the parking break at all since I will be using the hand stlye instead of the foot style.

You would think that someone would make hood latch kits for eairler model trucks. I will take a look at the universal kit from JC.

I agree, I've come home to find the hood unlatched.

Just picked up some trial and error pieces today at the local yard.

Have a good idea how to make them work.

Tore them done to do sandblasting tomorrow.

If they pan out I'll post.
