Can you help ID my front axle? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I think the springs and front axle are wrong for this model, I took some photos of the shackles that seem overworked and the leafs are touching the frame. That can't be good... It makes lots of noise going down the road and rides like a diving board. I am thinking of replacing the springs with stock ones or a slight lift kit made for this truck to straighten this mess out. Any advice guru's? This is my first 4x4 project. The truck is a 67 K-10.

judging by the shape of your diff cover, it looks like a GM 10 bolt front from the late 70's to 80's. Very possible someone swapped the longer springs from one of those trucks on there too.

It looks like a 10 bolt to me too.

I don't think you could fit the newer model springs though. I think they are 3" longer than the stock ones. I would guess they were lifted springs that have sagged.

that's a 10 bolt ol right.

longer shackles should get the spring away from the frame but would probably be better to get the right length one. should be bout 4" lift springs on the current ones.

Question 1-Would a lift kit for the 1967 bolt right on to this axle? I noticed on the current one, one of the U bolts is much longer than the other for it to fit. You can see it in the last pic.

And Question 2-I knew the 67 didn't have disk yet but my front clip is off a 72 and the bed has side marker lights. I was thinking she started life as a 72 and then they replaced a rusty cab or something. I thought that would explain the front disks too. Did any 72's come with the 10 bolt or is my first theory out the window and it's a cobbled together mess?

Front 10 bolt didn't come out until 1977. Somebody had done some swapping around on your truck...

I got a 1978 with 6" (Rough Country) lift
and a 1985 with 4" (homeMade) lift.
Both have a 10 Bolt Corporate like Some-one has put under your Truck.
I bet If you measure 67to 72 Front Springs They are Shorter.
1973to 79 or so are a few Inches longer.
