3/4ton with 1 ton axels
Over the years I have seen many trucks advertised this way. What exactly does this mean?

It doesnt really apply to our trucks but post 73 trucks and especially post 82's often had 3/4 ton running gear with 6 lug lighter duty axles. The GVW actually reflecting what a 3/4 ton payload would be unlike our where a 3/4 ton rating truck would haul more like 3000 lbs. . A heavy 3/4 ton would be a 3/4 ton with 1 ton running gear ie 8 lug axle and suspension.

I have also heard a lot of people describe the corp/eaton rearend as the "1 ton axle".
Just like the people who might call their 67-70 C-10's a "heavy half" because it came with 6 lugs.

6-lug 3/4-tons didn't show up until '88.
"One ton axles" on a 4x4 usually means a 14-bolt full-floater (or the big Eaton) and a Dana 60 front.

I've always understood the "heavy half" as a 1/2T PU with a 3/4T Rear axle setup. My memory says that with a heavy half, the front would sit lower than the rear (at least after 20 years anyways!).

Roger's right, but with a six lug setup on the 3/4 ton axle. If you go to the older trucks, the 3/4 and 1 ton used the same rear axle. When I was looking at 14 bolt floaters for my 52, I was told the housings were the same design, differences were in housing and axle length, drums and brakes being bigger for the 1 ton.

Often when ads say "1-ton axles" on a 1/2 or 3/4-ton, they mean the 1-ton axles have been swapped in. If it was "1-ton rear axle" it probably means it has a full-floating rear (original or swapped). Most 3/4-tons after '80 had semi-floating rears.

????????????????/
My 1967 C20 has an 8 lug / 14 bolt rear , with each out side hub having 8 cap bolts and a removeable cover to allow the axles to pull out . I understood this was a one ton full floater and It appears to be original to the truck . Did any one ton FF come on 67 C20'S ?

GM didnt even start making 14 bolt rear ends until 73. Yours was swapped in later.

Do you have coils in back. I assume you do as you said you had a panhard bar. Yours is pretty rare then. Mine has coils too but I have only seen a few that do although there are some on this board who swear that none of them did. Theyr'e quite wrong . Do you know what the gearing in yours is?

Do you have a series or studs with nuts around the perimeter on the side of the rear end that faces towards the transmission. It sounds like you have an Eaton if so .
HA HA HA ... I have the only coil sprung Dana 60 here then.... Muhaha !
