L31 crank position sensor hole on new long block

On the bottom of the timing cover is what I believe to be the crank position sensor... Can this hole just be plugged if the engine is being used without a computer?

This is on a brand new L31 long block being used with a carb and TH350 --

Yes sir, we purchased a small plug (freezer plug)from the NAPA store... put silicone sealant around it and tapped it into place... works like a champ.

A freezer plug? What did you ask them for at NAPA?

From your description, it sounds like this isn't a threaded pipe fitting, but a smooth thing you just need to press into the hole? I just know the hole exists, I don't have the engine in front of me to look

Thanks

Yeah just a small freeze plug works fine. I used a small freeze plug when I did the engine in the truck and used some plastic weld epoxy to make sure it stayed. In the birdy when I had the vortec 305 in it I just left the old CPS in. I just for the life of me cant remember what size the plug is.

The non-sensor hole composite cover is available online for $50.00. I would opt for either a steel cover or the freeze plug fix for the sensor hole.
