i have recently bought a 72 chevy 4x4 and the body is off of a 2wd truck so i'm trying to identify the year of the frame. Where are the numbers located on the frame and how do i tell what year it is once i get those numbers?

the vin #should be on the lh frame rail in back of the core supt mounting tab that will tell u if it matches your cab

The very first # before the single letter is the hear of the frame. This one is a 2 for a 72.

so the first number on mine is a 9. so does that make it a 69?

That is correct, at least the frame is a 69.
