Speedo cable routing

The 71 k10 i bought has no speedo cable and the firewall has been plugged and caulked to death. Does the speedo cable penetrate the firewall or the floor? Does anyone have a routing diagram showing attachments?

Re: Speedo cable routing

Just replaced the cable in my 68 C20 yesterday. It goes through a hole in the firewall at the upper corner of the fuse panel.

On my 68, the panel runs length-wise, and I know some of the newer ones ran more vertical. The hole is about 1" in diameter, about 1/2 way between the steering column and driver's side inner fender, and about 4-5" above where the steering column penetrates the firewall.

Re: Speedo cable routing

Mine has a clip that slides on the driver's side frame and there is a loop strap that is screwed to the side of the trans.

I will see if I can post some pics.

Re: Speedo cable routing

there is also a clip on the cab that you can stick the cable through and then bend it to hold it in place....

Re: Speedo cable routing

Here are some pics. My old cable was 69". Options were 60 or 83. Looks like I went too long, but it works.

Re: Speedo cable routing

Is that a gear reduction mounted to the transfer case or is that a stock item. One of the parts in the coffee can that came with the truck looks just like it. The PO told me it was needed for the larger tires.

I think it was 83" - that was the closest thing Napa had.

The gear it goes into (last photo) is on the TH400.
