Cig light wont go off

Ok I was trying to install a LED light in my truck for my stereo and I was going to splice it and hook it to the light for my cig so it would come on when that came on because I didnt want to have plug it into the lighter so anyways....I blew a fuse cuz i wired it wrong and it was the cluster lights fuse so I replaced it and I disconnected all the wires and put them back to normal and hooked the cig light back to normal but now it stay on no matter what....the keys off....the lights arent on....the cab light is off....its just stays on and will not go off?

Re: Cig light wont go off

So its suppose to run all night long and run down the battery?....cuz it use to always go off when I would shut my lights off and it just stays on and it wont even dim when I twist the knob.

Re: Cig light wont go off

That's how mine is, power to the socket at all times. So if you leave something plugged in and on it will drain the battery. If you are looking for switched power for something the best spot to tie into is on the fuse panel. There are two 1/4" male spade terminals that are labeled "IGN Unfused", like it says they aren't fused so you need to have an inline fuse of appropriate size between the fuse panel and whatever you are powering. Hope this helps you out.

Sorry I re-read the original post and realized you are talking about the light, not the cig lighter. Mine doesn't have a light so I can't help you out.

Re: Cig light wont go off

The cig light is on because it is wired wrong, if it were wired correctly and power was applied to it, the dash lights would also come on. Double check your wiring.

Re: Cig light wont go off

I put the wiring back to how it was....the light is the blue wire and it goes all the way to the fuse panel hooked to the spot for the cig light.

Re: Cig light wont go off

if it's plugged into the spot on the fuse panel then it's for the LIGHTER not the LIGHT ... and the lighter is hot all the time.

The spot on the fuse block is for the cig lighter (battery circuit) and not the light if you want the light to work it need to be tapped into the dash light circuit, you can tap into the heater light wire i believe it is gray.

Re: Cig light wont go off

i thought you were talking about plugging a light into the cigar lighter... like a plug in aftermarket thing from walmart.
The light that is part of the lighter assembly, plugs into the plug marked cluster feed.

Re: Cig light wont go off

Lol sorry if it was hard to read but yes I was talking about a aftermarket light and the cig light....because i was going to splice the led light into the cig light so I wouldnt have to plug it into the lighter...but anyways the cig light is plugged into the right spot on the fuse panel I never unplugged it I just splice the led light into the blue wire and it didnt work so I put it back to normal and no it stay constantly on.

Re: Cig light wont go off

you can leave an LED on for a month and it won't drain your mattery, the load is measured in milliamps.

Re: Cig light wont go off

ok, you have the red wire for the cigar lighter hooked to the cigar lighter terminal, right?
now, where is the green wire for the light hooked to? It is supposed to be hooked to the terminal for cluster feed. A labeled photo of the fuse panel can be found in the electrical forum's FAQ thread in the stickys if your lettering is worn off

Re: Cig light wont go off

Longhornman....Yes the red is going to the terminal for the lighter.... and my wire is blue for the light and it is going to the terminal labeled cluster feed....but somehow it is still staying lit?.....could something have messed up when I was splicing the neon light into the blue wire?

Re: Cig light wont go off

not if it is a proper splice.
Follow the wires, run your fingers from one end of the harness to the other end, see if there's any breaks in the wire insulation.
Either there's something wrong in the fuse block causing the terminal to stay hot, or there is a short between the two wires, it's not wired properly, it's not spliced properly... or you need to Sacrifice a couple goats to get rid of the demons.

Re: Cig light wont go off

Ok I think im going to have to sacrifice some goats lol cuz the blue wire for the light is in the right terminal....I wire nutted it back together so its just a solid blue wire going from the terminal to the light.......what could be wrong with the fuse panel?

Re: Cig light wont go off

unplug it from the cluster feed terminal, and then poke the terminal with a test light. I'm honestly having a hard time swallowing this. If that terminal is hot, then your dash lights should be on.

Re: Cig light wont go off

I agree with LHM, if the cluster feed is at fault then the dash lights would also be on. You can do a couple of quick test to determine if you have a ground fault.
1. What happens when you unplug the wire from the cluster feed terminal?
2. What happens when you turn on the dash lights?
3. does the cig lighter work?
4. What happens when you remove the cig lighter?
These tests will help determine if the cluster feed port is suppling power or ground.
