Windshield channel rust repair?

Hey guys,
Want to make my 71 Cheyenne Super a daily driver but i have to tackle some rust issues first. Truck to me is worth saving, just a typical salt driven mid-west truck.
Is it easier to get some donor pieces from a cab to repair the windshield channel or to form pieces from scratch and stitch in place?

Re: Windshield channel rust repair?

if you can weld and have the tools to do the job then by all means i say go for it.remember it's just like some folks say...it's only metal ....here is a link to a young man's truck build,,might be worth your time to read this....

http://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vboa...d.php?t=411447
also use the search box and search out "codfish" build , good luck with your build..

Re: Windshield channel rust repair?

Thanks for the links, those are some pretty heavy rust repair builds! I have a welder and can weld, but no bodyman by any means. But hey that's the fun of building these trucks, learn as you go! I love this site...just looking for all the info I can get...

Re: Windshield channel rust repair?

Here is my patch, I cut one out at a junk yard, just get a battery powered sawzall. And I still don't really know how to weld. I was pretty happy with my results

Re: Windshield channel rust repair?

Thanks, just an idea. I never thought I would be able to do work like that. I taught myself how to weld in february 2009 and these pics were taken in september, I never welded a thing before that. I have touched it up a bit with some filler, it is pretty perfect now. Just need to guts to try something like this

can't wait to see it i hear the front corners on the drip rails are alot of metal work. mine seam even but p/o had put running lights on top which kind of rusted around the mounting holes. so it looks like im going to have to buy a roof panel

Re: Windshield channel rust repair?

I had always thought that the drip rail should have been welded....looks like people have been doing it for a while and at the same time removing the rail itself
