bellhousing

guys are 47'-59' 235 hellhousings the same? putting a 61' 235 in my 56' and the bellhousing needs to be changed due to hyd throwout in 61'. i have access to another bellhousing on a 55' 235 in a 53' truck (just removed) and the casting numbers on the bellhousing are : 3835201 that say 53' 235. will this bellhousing work in my 56'? i thought all 235 bellhousing were same up to 59' thanks!

47-53 are the same. 54-55,1st are the same. 55,2nd to 59 are the same. 60-62 2 wheel drive a 63 4x4 are the same.

The 53 bell will not fit a 56 truck chassis, The 61 engine does not have the front mounts you need for a 56 chassis. you may need to fab the front mounts. 60-62 2x4 and 63 4x4 use a mount similar to the 47-53 but with one bolt in the mount bracket instead of 2. The 55-59 block had mount holes cast into it on the side of the block under the generator and on the other side in front of the fuel pump. 60-62 does not have these mount holes.
