Lawn Boy Mowers

These are things that originally got me started on working on engines. They are great push mowers and be used almost anywhere because they are 2-strokes. Does anyone else own these or have owned them or used them? What are all your opinions on them?

Re: Lawn Boy Mowers

I had an early one I loved. It was the original design...an aluminum or magnesium deck with the staggered front wheels that were dark red, grips were same color, muffler under the metallic green deck,no controls at all on the handle bars,Iron Horse engine that was a bronze color with a cool stylized horse hear logo on the starter cord cover. The compression ended up getting too low to start and no one could find me the parts. The engine bolt pattern was different, but I found a new Tecumseh 2-stroke to fit. I felt like I built a hot rod mower by bolting a newer motor onto my vintage mower. In reality I created a P.O.S. that only lasted a short time, not to mention it dumped smoke allover me while mowing. It sure was a good idea to put the exhaust under the deck! I was so disgusted by that motor being a turd and gave up on the old machine.

I have seen a couple of those, but not lately. I have 4 of these and I am looking to get rid of at least 2. Let me know if you want one and your in northern Indiana. But I love these, there so easy to maintain and they never bog down when you mow. I love the staggered wheels and the green on the them. I noticed that these are starting to get more valuable. So I don't know if I should try to find more or hang on to mine, but I need cash for my truck so at least 2 need to go for now.

Re: Lawn Boy Mowers

When I was a kid in the '70s, the Lawn Boys were the mowers to have. My Dad was a cheapskate, so we had crappy mowers while our neighbors always had Lawn Boys. I made my money as a teen cutting grass in the summers, and I always wanted a Lawn Boy. I thought that green color was so cool.

They are my favorite to mow with, but only the older ones because they are 2-strokes. And I always like the green color too. My dad was a cheapskate too and that's how we got the Lawn Boys is because at the time they going for $20 a mower. But they are so powerful used, but rebuilding one of these Lawn Boy's engines makes them even more powerful and that is why I love them.

Yes, Half the strokes, twice the power! I believe they made 2-stroke Lawnboys up until 2004. I could be off a year or two on that.

Re: Lawn Boy Mowers

Yes I will never use any other push-mowers. But I was not sure when they quick making good 2-strokes. Not a fan of new Lawn Boys though.

No I never had one like that,I figured it was but that year is a grey area for me. The newest one I have owned was made in 1988. So I'm used to 88 and back.
