After 17 years, it's coming home

Hi,my name is Nick. I am originally from Southern California and am currently in Indiana.
Back in 95, my Dad passed away. He had a 1958 Chevy Apache big window which was supposed to be mine. However, my sister and I had a major falling out and since she was the executor of his estate she sold it in 96.
The entire family knew that truck was supposed to be mine. Needless to say, my other 6 sisters were pretty upset with the sale. In 97, my employer offered me a job in St. Louis. When my wife, 4 kids and I left, I told the wife I would one day own the truck again before I die.
Anyhow, over the years I found the owner and have had made offers to purchase the truck back and it was always "No." About 3 weeks ago, I get a phone call from the owner asking if I was still interested in the truck. Of coure my response was "HELL yes I am." A deal was made and I am heading back to Cali. in April to bring "Our" truck home. Our being Dad and I.

Re: After 17 years, it's coming home

Aside from the greedy sister part, I love stories like this! It's awesome that the truck is now home.

In the 80's, I tracked down my dad's 55 F-100 in Farmington NM (He sold it in 73). I talked to the guy who owned it, on my brick phone, while I was sitting outside his house.
He was not home, but the truck was in pieces in the barn 20 yards from me. He said he would consider selling it, but call him in a week or two. I called a few times, and his demeanor suddenly changed one day. He said " I got tired of it and scrapped it out"!!! I was crushed, to say the least

I had even tracked down the hotrodded Buick roadmaster motor that my dad had installed, that someone else had.

I built a replica, but it had no soul. Sold it to a friend, with no emotion what so ever.

Re: After 17 years, it's coming home

my father passed away in 2009 and before he went he bluntly informed my mom that his 1971 GMC sierra Grande was to be mine. A few weeks after his passing my mother handed me the title .If I live to be 100 that truck will be in my possession, The hours we spent working on it are the greatest memories of my Dad. Congrats on getting your Fathers truck.

Re: After 17 years, it's coming home

Congrats on getting it back!! Family ties to our trucks make them so much more meaning full. Mine has several stories behind it from the family, first one giving reason to the rest. It's the first truck/ vehicle my moms dad ever bought new! Like mentioned above it will remain in the family to my grave!

Awesome! And by the way, it's totally acceptable to sit quietly in the truck, alone, with wet eyes.

Glad to know that a great old truck will be back where it belongs! I can certainly identify with the strong emotional attachment. My '49 will leave my possession only when I leave this earth...

Re: After 17 years, it's coming home

I wish I could get my dads truck back ( think it was a 71 chevy Stepside ), my bother sold it after he passed. My other brother stripped his garage clean of all tools and any other thing of value. Even the old little coke machine that had been outside my dads garage mysteriously disappeared. The funny part is both those brothers are now lacking what they were so in a hurry to sell. The one who sold the truck needs a vehicle and the other who raped the tool shed doesn't even own a hammer, wrench, or screwdriver. Wish my father was here to see the shop I built in place of his old garage. I'm doing all the things he loved to do. I even hung a picture of him in my office which reads " this shop was built in loving memory of my father" and he will always be honored in that shop.

BTW, I love your truck. The body gaps are really tight looking. Enjoy

I love the stories. Keep em coming. My son started hanging with me today in the garage. The internet died. He was helping me wire brush the rust off our frame.
