window washer tank???

anyone got photos of where the original mounting location was on a 1966 c10 truck for the window washer tank. I seen this photo (attached) but it doesnt look like the orginal location. By the way this is photo of a gmc, not a chevy so I dont know if they are located in the same spot.

Re: window washer tank???

The correct location on your '66 would be on the drivers side radiator support above the horn relay.

Re: window washer tank???

Not meaning to hijack the post, just another Q.

What years used the glass bottles, and when did they switch to plastic?

Re: window washer tank???

Im not sure about the glass bottle but when I was looking through my assemble manual it showed the washer tank next to the master cyclinder.

Re: window washer tank???

The 1960 Chevy Truck Accessories Installation manual shows the washer bottle mounted on the firewall, but I don’t think the concept lasted very long. They may have been eliminated by 1961. I’ve never seen one personally. And I believe glass bottles were phased out sometime in the 1950’s.

Re: window washer tank???

I thought I saw someplace that had re-pop glass bottles for the 60-? Opti-clean, does that sound right?

Re: window washer tank???

I have been researching this recently. The one in the diagram I find to be 60 and 61. In 62 they changed the washer bottle but it could still be mounted by the master cylinder. 63 and later it is mounted up by the horn.

Well it seems Optikleen glass bottles were still used perhaps until the mid 1960’s (at least in passenger cars) according to a few Ebay listings. Here’s one link:

Re: window washer tank???

If the Optikleen bottle had a colored label it was from the factory. The refills came with a white label with black lettering so I was told. The windshield washer bottle could be mounted either beside the master cylinder if no Power Brake Unit was installed or beside the radiator if the Power Brake Option was selected.
