Re: lowering my truck

You have quite a few options. Tall rims and tires is good, sectioned crossmember, dropmember, z'd frame, air bags....

I hardly see boss 338. Or coys. Torque thrust twos are on everything and are as popular as mustang and camaros

Re: lowering my truck

I see boss 338's pretty much everywhere I look. maybe it depends on where you live?

if you want to be low but have your crossmember higher up you are going to either need to pancake your crossmember or look into an aftermarket crossmember. I would NOT recommend a z'd frame for a static drop.

tubular control arms will gain a little bit of clearance also. nate or dave from porterbuilt can help you decide what is the best option for what your end goal is and on your budget.

Just wondering, why no Z on a static?

Re: lowering my truck

bump steer issues with how high the steering box comes up, raised engine means cutting into the trans tunnel, possible hood clearance issues with the motor. just doesnt seem like a good idea for a static drop. it really isnt a good idea in general the way its typically done. IMO a z'd frame should be paired with a pancaked crossmember 100% of the time. that way with a 1.5" pancake you will only need a 1.5" z.

IMO, the best drop for your situation would be a 3.5/5in drop. You being a new driver, this drop will look good and won't be too extreme or costly to learn on and it will be easy to go lower later if you want to. Rolling on 20s you could do a 5/7in but remember that anytime you lower these trucks without major mods the a-arms are going to be relatively close to the ground and you have to drive aware of that fact.

yeah i suppose. but 20s...are too big for my taste. im thinking 18 inch boss 338 gunmetals or chrome..undecided and all i have to do is get 2.5 spindles cause i have a set of 2 inch springs, from my dads truck. and a flip kit too. but i kinda figured the a-arms would be close, with out mods!

I have a 5/7in drop on 18's with 27" tires all the way around. Inner fenders are removed. Could stand the frame to be notched in the rear. Regardless of wheel size your tire height determines alot too. I`ve ran 15`s 26" tall - 15`s 28" tall and the 28" tire is too high and the 26" is too short making the control arms drag. So in my opinion a 27" tire is as tall as you should go and 26.8" is as short as i would go.

Re: lowering my truck

I think a 4.5/6 will give you a nice stance, and it uses a 2.5" drop spindle. The 3" drop spindle is nice but the 2.5" drop spindle will help get the arms up a little higher. Doesn't sound like much, but it does help.

McGaughys 4.5/6 Kit

For wheels, the 20's will fill up the fender wells nicely, but it all comes down to personal preference and what you like. If going 20's, a good staggered setup is 8.5's / 10's, using a 285/40 in the rear and a 245/45 up front.

We also have a special on polished Streeter wheels, which bolt directly on these trucks and have the right backspace you need.
