Help with rebuilding door hinges

As the title says Im getting ready to rebuild my door hinges, I have read all the threads that i could find, and pretty confident on doing it.
My question is can I use any pins like the ones at the parts store or are they diameter specific, I dont want to take mine apart and have to wait for them in the mail if they wont fit.
any help would be appreciated
thanks in advance

Re: Help with rebuilding door hinges

The pin kits come with pins and bushings sized to the pins OD and a little larger than the stock hole to allow for drilling out the potentially hogged out holes. My replacement pins are .3350" diameter. Can't measure the bushing its hidden in the hinge. Make sure they are long enough, to long is not a problem, you can cut them down and retaper the end. Unless there are other issues (rusted bolts breaking, bad sheet metal encountered, etc.) the actual pin replacement is a 10-15 minute deal per hinge. Usually only one hinge on each side is bad, my doors have about 250K miles on them and I only had to replace 2 out of 4. MartinSR has a good tutorial with photos over at stovebolts, its for an AD but TF are the same.

Re: Help with rebuilding door hinges

The biggest time saver is cutting the pins and driving them out from the inside. Like many I tried to just press them out, luckily I found a like to MartinSR's tech note. It was one of the things I was dreading doing, because I was afraid of messing up the door geometry, once I started I was surprised at how well it went.

Re: Help with rebuilding door hinges

When I first got my truck I rebuilt one of my drivers door hinges using a kit from NAPA. The p/n for it was BK 675-5205. I'm not sure exactly what it was listed as fitting as I just matched up my old parts. It was a little high, IMO, at about ten dollars to do one hinge. Later I got a kit off of EBay that did all four hinges for less than the one from NAPA. Here is the EBay set: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1958-Chevy-G...sories&vxp=mtr

Re: Help with rebuilding door hinges

I used hinge pin kits from classic and still wasn't happy with the play that the hinges still had. I bought new hinges and really like how tight they are.

Re: Help with rebuilding door hinges

I got mine years ago from Jim Carter and everything is nice and tight. The bushing to hinge has to be a good press fit, I mic'd mine and did an indexed drill size smaller. If the pin to bushing fit is not good that a QC problem.
