Location of windshield washer pump

My pump is bad. Looks like it goes under the dash, but does anyone know exactly where? My local junk yard has two of these trucks, so I want to see if I can find this part under the dash, but don't know where to look, or if it is hard to remove?

Re: Location of windshield washer pump

It's attached to the wiper motor which is to the upper right on the inner cowl behind the instrument cluster. It's harder to access if you have A/C. Easiest to get at if you pull the cluster.

Re: Location of windshield washer pump

Ok guys. I got it out of the junker and bought it. It was 6 bucks, is off a 71, and looks brand new. As an FYI, removing the instrument cluster doesn't help. I did that, since it was a junker, but it didn't help. It's actually closer to the radio. One junker had a radio, and I had a hard time getting it out and gave up. Went to another junker that had the radio removed, and it was cake to get to it

Re: Location of windshield washer pump

Here's another option you might want to consider:

I took the tank with the electric pump from an S-10. I wired it into my washer switch so it works with the center button, but it's easy to get to, has great pressure, and I can replace the whole thing for less than $10 and about 5 minutes of work if I need to.

I mounted it in the same location as the stock pump.

Truckster, thanks for the tip. I've owned my 71 going on 2 years, have tried to replace the mechanical pump twice now, and still can't get it to work. I'm gonna try your fix!

Make sure it's not the lines that are plugged. Mine sat outside at the previous owners house and they were plugged when I bought it. I'd hate to see you pull things if you don't have to.

Re: Location of windshield washer pump

Yeah, sorry. I meant the reservoir. The pump on the S-10 washer bottle is on the bottom of the bottle.

I also wired the switch using spade connectors so I can go back to stock if I want to.

Glad it was "cake" for you. On my truck, with the radio out (actually, the back of the radio cut off...but that's another story), AND the instrument cluster/bezel out, steering wheel off, etc. It was a PIA.
I was a 66 year old pretzel under the dash (bucket seats IN, unfortunately).

So...I didn't wanna do it again. I left the broken pump on, IIRC, and put a $16 electric pump on top of it, replaced the hoses because I wanted to, hooked up the electrics from stock to the stuff supplied
in the Napa kit.....tested it for leaks. Tested it again. Closed it up. It's not stock. But some things are simply better than stock.

Unless someone with a clip board is climbing around under my dash (Hardy-har-har), I'd rather have it work than have it factory.

Of course, YMMV...As it should with all of us.

Here's the rez. Ran the ww supply hose behind the fender.

Oh great. That hassle, and it might not even work or hold up...

Re: Location of windshield washer pump

Never had luck with used pumps. This last round, I bought a new one from Classic in Mo. Works great and has that wonderful "Clack" sound when she's a pumpin. Did I mention, I love my ole truck....

I bought one at O'Reillys. looks just like the original. Its just the pump part inside the cab. Think it was like $13.

Which generation s10 did you get the bottle from? 80's 90's? or does it not matter because they are all the same?

Re: Location of windshield washer pump

I think it was a 90s, but I'm not 100% sure. I was looking more at the condition of the washer bottle. I think either would work.

I can take pics tomorrow if that will help.
