I have an in-line fuel filter. It was on the truck when I bought it but I would have installed one any way. There is a lot of rain up her in the Pacific Northwest and it can wash a lot of dirt into the tanks at the stations. It's a pretty cheap safety precaution. There was a post several months back about in-line fuel filters and how the glass kind can break and start an engine fire! I have the glass kind but before I get my truck running again, I'm going to switch it out.

By all means get an inline filter. Buy one for the size line you have... 5/16 or 3/8, cut the steel line between the pump and carb. Stay away from the glass ones.

Well its either that or some day you try your hand at finding a replacement for the one inside the fuel port on the carb! Since I have an old 2G that would be fun...

...in-line filters are damn cheap, and they really don't cause any fuel delivery problems unless you get some huge-a$$ thing that the fuel pump can't shove fuel through!

I still run the little filters in the carb. There only cost about a dollar and are easy enough to replace. Those gas lines are too spendy to replace for me. just my $.02

I run 2 filters, one under the cab just off the tank, and the glass one on top of the motor.
While it is true that the glass ones can bust or leak, I still run one. If placed using some common sence, they won't hit anything.
When my Longhorn got smashed, the filter was fine.
