Tire sizes - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

What rim and tire sizes are you guys running? I will be lowering mt 1952 Chevy truck but not bagging or slamming it. Just want to put some nice rims and tires on it with out clearance issues. The truck is stock 6 lug set up with no modifications to suspension yet.. Thanks in advance.. Pictures are also helpful..

I think there are probably as many tire sizes on guys trucks as there are guys on here. We all have a different concept of exactly what size tire we should run and for different reasons.

My truck is going to sit pretty low with Mustang II style after market front suspension with coils and a Trans AM rear and leaf springs with probably 215-75-15 tires on 7 inch steel rims. That's with whitewalls and hubcaps. It may have load leveler bags on the back to maintain the static height when I travel and carry luggage or pull a teardrop trailer though.

Best thing would to check out trucks that sit the way you want yours to and have tires that fit the wheel wells the way you want yours to and find out what they are running.

Thanks for the info.. I am headed to the Goodguys car show and swap meet to do some tire size research this weekend.. I was just trying to get an idea of what some members of the forum were running on their trucks. I also am planning on steel wheels with wide white wall tires.. The right size tires and rims can make or break the look of the truck in my opinion.. Along with the correct stance as well..

Mine is 6 lug, Sids 4" drop axle and currently running Coker Classic 6.00x16 on factory steeles. I have just ordered Wheelsmiths 6"x15 with a 3.5 backspace fronts and 8"x15 rears with a 4" backspace. I'm wrapping them with Hurst Racings wide whites (Hancook modern radial with a 3" bonded whitewall) 215/75/15 front and a 235/75/15 rear. Here's how it sits now. The new wheels and tires will be the same height, just deeper looking. The wheels I had built are a chrome centered Artillery with a painted hoop, polished stainless ribbed rings and new chrome caps.

Coach just put wheels and tires on his truck and perdue went old school bias tall and skinny. Both look great, just a different look. My current set up looks old school, but I tow a 20' camp trailer all summer. And want a larger footprint and the safety of a modern radial. Having Hurst bond the whitewall gives me the best of both.

I am running 15" x 6" front wheels, with 215/75-15 tires and 15" x 7" in the rear with 235/75-15's.

mines got some 10 bolt 20's on it atm but its soon gonna have some 8 bolt 16.5s on it

A little over 5" in the front. Rear will be about 7" once in it's final ride height.

Rims are Cragar Delux's, bought them from Summit Racing.

You got to like the 10 bolt pattern.. That thing would make one heck of a boat puller..

they are nice if i wasn't going to lift it and do an axle swap i thought about baggin it and finding a bed and making the rear fenders cover both duals and have a super singles for rear tires

Hey guys... I put a call and an e-mail into Hurst Tire regarding prices for their 3" white wall tire.. I guess they are out of the office. Do you have any experiance with Coker classic Nostalgia tires in comparison both quality and price wise? Here is the link to summit for the Coker radials.. Thanks

Best bet with Hurst is to call them.

Hurst will be cheaper than the Cokers for sure.

And a better product. I had nothing but trouble with the 3 sets of cokers I kept trying to make them work. I switched to Hurst on my last build and they were great. Just pulled the cokers from the suburban after blowing tubes aand went with Hurst again. Never going to buy coker again!

Cody and the guys were probobly at the Portland swap meet all week. I just got back from camping there for 4 days at the track.

Thanks Coach... The rims that i have been looking at for the front are 15" x 6" with a 4" backspace.. I believe that you said that your front rims have a 3.5 inck backspace.. Do you thing the extra half inch will cause any issues? I am sitting at stock ride height right now but plan to drop it some at a later point.. Thanks again.. I appriciate your help

I would recomend the 3.5 to clear the tie rod. The aspect ratio of the tire comes very close on a straight axle truck, ifs you don't have to worry about it. You can special order the 3.5 from Summit.

It is official... I have tracking numbers... The new tires are supposed to arrive on Monday.. I cant wait to get them mounted up and on the truck.

It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around.
