What are these and why are they there?
The cables wraped around the frame and bolted to the engine.

Any chance of getting those pics any bigger?
Are they ground straps? you should have on on both sides, bolted to the valve cover, and to the firewall.

chevys answer to a bad design motor mount its a stop lift kit so gas pedal wont stick these are also on sale new on ebay

If your motor mounts break those cables will keep everything somewhat intact. If that's possible.

I not sure of the year but there was a recall for these year of pickups for bad motor mount rubbers breaking and the trottle sticking,so this was chevys fix, this is what i've heard but not gospel as i was just being thought of or in the oven. lol
i parted out a 69 half ton that had those on them, and asked a few old timers whatv they were for.

That is 100% correct. Kinda suprised you have them on both sides, most only got the drivers side. I have the recall papers for this. I posted it once a long time ago. It is dated May '72.
