Stolen car hauler & '66 Chevy C-10 chopped cab

Hey guys, sad that I'm having to post this but my dad's car hauler was stolen from his house today. His rust-free '66 Chevy C-10 SBW chop top cab was on the trailer. I assume the thief was after the trailer specifically, as the cab would've been covered. My dad has owned this cab longer than I've been alive (30yrs), & it once belonged to a completely rust-free truck which he drove many years as well. There are rust-free front fenders sitting inside the cab. My dad disassembled the truck in the early 90's in anticipation of building a Pro-Street. Life got in the way, & the build was halted for many years. However, the cab & parts (minus bed) were always kept in storage. Earlier this year my dad bought a nice rolling chassis with drivetrain, hoping to kickstart his dream build once again. This chassis was covered up underneath the carport due to lack of space in the garage. I mention this because I feel like the thief was particularly after the trailer or otherwise would've stolen the chassis as well. The cab just happened to be on the trailer unfortunately.

The trailer is 18ft, with a 2-foot dove tail. It has a diamond plate steel floor with pull-out ramps & a 15k lb. rope (not cable) winch on front. It has white spoke wheels (as pictured) with spare tire mounted on the right front side.

My dad lives in Corinth, MS. If anyone in Northeast Mississippi, Northwest Alabama, or just the Southeast in general would keep an eye out, we'd greatly appreciate it. My dad reported it stolen today, but I'm trying to spread the word to every outlet possible.

Not sure if it helps any, but my dad's elderly neighbor claims to have seen a tall man wearing either a straw or cowboy hat. He was driving a white truck, which we think is approximately 2010-11 Ford F-150 4-door. If I get more details, I will post them. Attaching pics for reference:

bummer... that kind of theft really chaps me, stolen for the trailer and took the cab without knowing what they got... be sure to check all area scrappers and drop off a photo to them. good luck finding it.

Thanks guys! Yeah Clem, another friend mentioned the same thing about scrappers.

The cab was covered with a blue tarp. Would doubt they took time to look underneath. At the beginning of the year, my dad bought a white 2007 GMC crew cab (2wd). My guess is they've been scoping the place out, knowing they'd likely get away with this if they had a similar looking vehicle. They stole this stuff in plain daylight, a little after 1:00pm. It's also in the city limits, in an area that sees plenty of traffic.

That sucks. You work hard all your life to get a few toys then some low life rips you off. Hope they are recovered.

Thanks Mr. Ron. If it were any other cab, it wouldn't be quite as bad. Really sucks that they got the trailer though too, but it doesn't have the sentimental value like the cab. Not to mention chopping a cab takes skill, & this one was done right. Hope we can find them both!

My dad just found out today that the same white 4-door Ford truck has stolen two more trailers in the county!!!

That just makes me ill. I've been green with envy ever since I first saw that cab. Sure hope it turns out with a positive ending.

Thanks Mark, hoping we can eventually bring it back unharmed.

Small Update: My dad said a guy he works with saw the trailer with cab on it going through Burnsville, MS on Wednesday afternoon. The cab was covered with a blue tarp when it left my dad's place. So unless it's removed, you may not see the cab itself. Just keep an eye out for the cab pictured or a blue tarp covering cargo on a trailer like the one pictured.

thats some hope... maybe the police will find the crook if they're active.

do any nearby states not require trailer tags or registration? that would be a good place to checkout since the trailers are easily sold there. just a thought.

good luck... i hope this one will turn out good for you. thats a cab we will all recognize on here. and we'll be looking....

Please continue to keep your eyes open. I'm still holding on to hope that it shows up someday. Luck is pretty much all we have at this point. The insurance company already cut a check for the trailer, & it has been replaced. However, the cab & parts inside are a total loss unless we find them. Thanks guys!

Talked to my dad a little more in-person when I was home over Labor Day weekend. The trailer was parked in front of his shop next to the house. The trailer tongue was locked up. According to the neighbor, she saw the man pull up to the house, get out, & knock on the house door. When nobody came, he went next door to the shop which has an apartment attached that my great-aunt used to live in. He knocked there too with no luck. My dad was at work at the time. So apparently the guy left. Well at some point he came back, cut the lock, & took off with everything.

My dad said one of his other neighbors had his trailer stolen shortly afterward as well. The neighbor's trailer was hooked to his truck, & he was at home at the time. Apparently that did not matter, as the thief unhooked it & left before the neighbor even had a clue.

My dad has a friend that works for the Harley-Davidson dealership in Tuscumbia, AL. He was at work the day my dad's stuff was stolen, & he says he saw the stuff passing through that area. He just assumed it was my dad & thought nothing of it.

No way to know for sure, but my dad seems to feel like it's probably in North Alabama somewhere. At this point, it could be virtually anywhere though!

Sadly, we just passed the one year anniversary. Still no sign of this thing nor any leads. Unless they crushed it, it's out there somewhere. Not very optimistic about finding it now though.

Re: Stolen car hauler & '66 Chevy C-10 chopped cab

I never mentioned this before, but if you look closely in the pics you'll see what might separate this from another chopped cab. The doors were cut so that they have a "notch" in them that looks to be very near the body line/crease that runs just below the windows. That crease follows around the back of the cab, just below the recess where a big window would sit. Of the chopped cab pics I have seen thus far, none have been done like this.

Thank you. For a while I was checking CL, but I haven't in a good while. Anytime I see something pop up on the Facebook groups that is chopped, I admittedly take a closer look. Still a bit hard to come to terms that it's gone.
