converting inline carrier bearing to horse shoe style bearing on 68 c10
I have a carrier bearing cross member on my c10 that has the in line round carrier bearing but would like to use the horse shoe style my cross member has been cut and plated on the bottom to lay flush with the frame. I'm thinking all I would have to do is drill two holes and make a spacer to get my pinion angle at 0 degree coming from the trans. My question is. Is the hole for the drive shaft on the trucks with the inline bearing large enough for the horse shoe type? Are the the same cross member just different mounting points between the two bearing styles.

The center hole in the trailing arm crossmember has nothing to do with mounting the HD carrier bearing. That bearing mounts on a bracket riveted to the forward lower flange of the crossmember. I realize your crossmember has been modified, but it is hard to tell if what you are asking will work without seeing it. The driveshaft itself is also different with the HD carrier bearing.
Here is a pic of the HD setup.

Did you ever convert it over?
