1958-1959 fleetside tire bracket

Does anyone have any info or pics if what a spare tire bracket and hardware look like for the fleetsides? Thanks in advance

same as every other truck that gm ever made. mounted under the rear of the bed held up to the bed with a bar and a couple of rods run thru the frame.
if... your truck is not stock, i would install one of the wind up tire winches like the newer vehicles have.

No sir, it mounts on drivers side under bed rail.

that would be an aftermarket bracket, you can still buy aftermarket kits for mounting the spare inside the bed on fleetside or stepside beds.
all trucks up 3100 thru 6000 series had the spare mounted under the bed from the factory.
section 10 of the factory assembly manual shows all the mounting points for under bed carriers.
the exception being the side mounted spares on the stepside trucks like mine and the cameo had a compartment for the spare.



these are all aftermarket in bed spare tire carriers; and still available for purchase.

I was able to pick up a stock inner fender bracket for a 60+ Fleetside... will try to see if it fits the 58-59 bed sides (which are in my basement right now) in the next couple of days.

I just received the latest issue of Classic Trucks yesterday and it has a good article about mounting a roll up spare mount under the rear of a TF. They are mounting it in a Panel but a pickup should be the same.

to bad behind the axle is also the best spot to relocate the gas tank

I'll have to check what year it's for- it is a stock piece... even came with a wonderful set of those wretched clutch head bolts

lots of dealer add on parts were available for these trucks.
heaters were often a dealer option; if you bought a truck in the south it may not have had a heater.
fender mounted spares were also a dealer option that could be added to any truck that didn't come factory with it.
rear bumpers, chrome trim and the window hung swamp coolers could be added at the dealership.

there is one available for the 58-59 fleetside in bed, I have one im thinking from a 60-66 but the 58-59 had a bend towards the middle. Thanks for all responses

Yeah, that spot is occupied by the fuel tank on my truck. So this is what I do....And I don't like it!

Bracket i have pulled it off my dads 60 apache but not sure if it was stock. Ive seen 67-72 brackets but they curve at bottom

Mine has that bend/curve... maybe I lucked out!

You know, I've wanted to get pics of the truck up for a while... even started a thread on doing the Camaro clip.

Unfortunately, life, schedule, etc has gotten in the way. It's at Brad54's place right now, but will be coming home soon- when it does, I'll take some good pics!

Now, if you're talking about my "spare", it's always around, but hard to get pics of as well...

It's also the best spot to put the spare tire if you are keeping the tank in the cab like some of us are.

Having that spare tire sticking up past the bed rails does not look good, in my opinion. This is what I ended up doing. It is fastened down so it won't get airborn. Not sure if I am going to leave it like this or build a cabinet to hide it and maybe a couple of NO2 bottles.

and uses a lot of bed space, which isn't practical for a working truck, but many of ours don't work anymore
