Ls swap into '64 with stock gas tank??

Can I swap my 5.3 into my '64 and still use the stock gas tank? If so, can someone tell me the best way? This is my first fuel injected swap, so I'm kinda lost on this subject....

Re: Ls swap into '64 with stock gas tank??

While it isn't ideal, I'm doing the same on my '72. I put a Walbro kit intended for a turbocharged '94-'97 Miata on the sock end of the stock pick-up, and replaced all rubber hose in the cab with SAE 30R9 spec (the 30R7 stuff usually sold in parts stores as fuel hose is not suitable for high pressure EFI). On a '64, you'd need to add a bulkhead fitting for a return.

a frame mounted fuel pump will work fine to draw the fuel out of the tank and supply the motor, your problem is going to be a return. I drilled and inserted a fitting in the fill neck of my last 6.0 swap for the return. I had issues getting it to seal correctly since the metal is thin. I would suggest taking the tank out and having someone put a fitting in it for a good seal on the return. You will also need to make sure that you have a vented gas cap to vent the return gases and pressure.

If you don't want to modify the tank, you can add a return to the sender. But do know, when the fuel level gets low you can have fuel slosh/starvation problems. Keeping at least 1/4 tank of gas helps, so I bent the float arm up so it read empty when in fact there was really 1/4 tank of fuel left.

My current truck I sumped the tank and it gravity feeds out of the bottom, I've had no issues with this set up even with a really low fuel level, but it's definitely more work.

I think I'm going to try this.
